Miss Meadows

Very strange, studiously quirky drama suffers from a screenplay that takes an interesting premise and negates it by never being able to settle on a tone or consistent direction (to its credit, there is no permutation of this premise that the screenplay doesn't trot out!) A shame, as this is arguably Holmes' best film performance to date; she succeeds in creating a plausible, likable centre for this utterly peculiar character. Sort of a fascinating disaster, and eminently watchable on that basis.

I think it's all just going on in Miss Meadows' head. Maybe I'm wrong, though. Anyway, this is pretty fun, pretty quirky-in-a-good-way--a wacky, cheerfully misanthropic chunk of pulp fiction that manages to squeeze off a few rounds of a parable about love, death, and human cruelty along the way. Plus it reminded me of CURDLED, that great cultish thing from 1996. Check it out if you're in the mood for something adventurous.

As referenced in a line in the movie (so we don't miss it?), it is Mary Poppins (her name is actually Mary too) killing people. It's very strange in tone and mood, never working as satire or straight vigilante movie. The idea of twisting Poppins like this is appealing, and Holmes is an in interesting choice for the lead, but it all just seems too convenient, even for a movie, and doesn't gel. Tries for dramatic and quirky but it's just awkward more than compelling.

Miss Meadows isn't worth watching. Katie Holmes is fun to watch in the lead role, it's true, but dedicating 90 minutes to watching her as a murderous Merry Poppins simply isn't worth it. It's kind of fun for a little while, but outside of that it really isn't going to feel like it's worth your time. This is a film that doesn't quite know what it should be doing, and it most certainly doesn't utilize the potential that its script had.

Katie Holmes gives a good performance in this movie. However the script could have used a rewrite, ultimately the script doesn't work. Overall this film is disappointing.

I didn't know a movie without a story could exist. Even the short duration of it felt like a lifetime.

Maybe it's the heroine's many eccentricities (which only drew me in, - especially her love for wordplay) coupled with its thematic seriousness that put off some viewers, but its message is highly unusual for a film w/ such a well-known H'wood star (kudos to Holmes for taking the role) in the lead. Most filmmakers that try & grapple w/ the topic of crime, usually sympathize w/ perpetrators & so, you wait for the other progressive shoe to drop, but here, it - cathartically - never does

Jeden z tych filmow, podczas ktorych caly czas masz wrazenie, ze cos tu nie do konca zagralo jak nalezy. Z pozoru to naprawde niezla historia, jednak jej poznawanie nie daje zadnej satysfakcji. Ot, obejrzec, zapomniec. Niestety. Plus za Katie Holmes, wyglada przeuroczo ;)
