A curiously intriguing little slice of 80s oddness, by turns funny, surreal, romantic and terrifying. The tone does seem to shift all over the place, and the setting and oddball bunch of characters contribute to a very uncertain atmosphere that kept me guessing. I've realised that there are a load of films that totally passed me by in the 80s that are worth a look, this being one of them. Gets bonus points for Brian Thompson.

I had no idea what to expect with this one, and it has such an amazing switch from romantic movie to.. something much darker.. that I can't help but grin. It's all terribly 80's, but it only adds to the slightly surreal experience.

If you remember the nuclear paranoia of the 1980's, this film will bring it all back for you. It gets you fairly early with one of the worst scenarios imaginable, and then twists the knife over and over again with the following hour of hopes and false hopes, reunions and losses, narrow escapes, horrible deaths, grueling tension, and an almost intolerable amount of dawdling. Sound like fun? Then Miracle Mile is for you!!!

Unexpectedly good. It has great vibes, and I loved the setting. Gotta love 80s movies which happen in cities at night, which makes it all feel so liminal and amazing.

A quite thrilling and fast paced movie. I was told this was a 'Romantic' movie and should give it a try without knowing anything about it. The asshole lied, but I was pleasantly surprised by the nightmarish movie it actually was

Could be super-intense and engaging but falls into bouts of dark comedy weirdness. Great premise though which makes up for the occasional lapses in logic. Highly recommended if you enjoyed Scorsese's "After Hours", which, alongside "Miracle Mile", has the distinction of being the worst date movie ever.

The vibes this movie has are magnificent. It feels liminal, artificial, fake but at the same time real; the cinematography surprised me a lot, such quality, accompanied by a soundtrack that made everything click, unlike the main guy’s performance, which is not very good (he kinda looks like Mathew Perry?).

Makes a lot darker choices than the usual Hollywood thriller from the 80's would, and really gives a great sense of power and dread to the situation. There's a lot of intelligence, sensitivity and attention to detail that separates it from many disaster films which often don't bring to question morality and individual action, and instead focus only on bombast.

If a Safdie Brothers film was made in the 1980s, it would be Miracle Mile.

there's a vulnerability and dread to this that i love, a sense of idealism on the verge of crumbling (crystallised by the great tangerine dream score) until finally it does, and all these great supporting characters, these long-dead relics of '80s culture, slip in and out of the film without a goodbye, swept away in the desperate confusion. winningham's pathetic love interest irritates, but maybe she's an inevitable byproduct of the film's submersion in reagan's fragile fifties nostalgia.

Nihilistic, terrifying, funny, Miracle Mile covers quite the gamut of emotions. What stands out, however, is the anxiety that Edwards is able to to whip up in a pretty convincing fashion. A double with After Hours might be perfect or it might just send you over the edge.

Viewed June 4, 2017. I think you could make a case for this as the great American movie of the 1980s - or, at the very least, it's a representative example of the unique spark of creative ingenuity that you see throughout the decade. There's so much to praise here. The script is so rich and thoughtful, but it also functions so well as just a run-of-the-mill, handsomely photographed thrill ride. A total gem.

This movie starts off so well. It really does, but it starts to get obnoxious and drag on in such a ridiculous manner (as one criticker put it, suffers from Gilliam syndrome). The whole thing kinda feels and plays out like an dream in this weird way. Hazy, confusing. I did like the concept, sort of a Chicken Little reference, as if the world is ending. Anyway, check it out. It's 80s, it's cheesy, and I think I took it too serious. Music by Tangerine Dream was a pleasant surprise!

This is exactly what I was looking for in an end-of-the-world movie. The real-time thriller format works fantastically and captures the feeling of having profoundly scary information in advance, and dealing with one's very unusual survival goals. It's hard to sleep after watching this.

What I learned from this movie: the 80s weren't all about nerds getting revenge, and in Los Angeles traffic, it takes at least 90 minutes to drive approximately one mile.

There's something very powerful about this movie. It's very nihilistic. Human emotion and survival instinct when everything else is stripped away. Selfishness, and coldness. Mass hysteria and panic. These are all conveyed and add to the off-putting, terror filled mood. Jarnatt draws us into his desolate world and you really feel as if missiles are coming your way. It's very minimalistic in its scope, but the screenplay is superb and the mood more than makes up for this.

I don't get the love. It's the rare movie that made me hope for a Nuclear attack. The behaviour (esp. early on) seemed completely unbelievable. (Actually reminded me of that godawful Netflix film where Meryl Streep was the president, I think, I could only take about 20 minute of it. I think it was called "Don't Look Up.") I'm not sure it's a problem with execution, per se, although a lot of the acting (from minor characters) was cringy. The script is just nuts. Tonal shift? Tonal earthquake.

Really enjoyed some of the filmmaking and imagery, but the script felt a bit shit to me, like it was constantly treading water. The ending was a nice dark surprise. What do you expect when you meet cute happens near primordial ooze?

This isn't an unknown film by any means, but it should be better known given its quality. It's a rather unusual take on the apocalyptic film at a time when the genre seemed pretty thoroughly mined. The important thing is it feels fresh. The protagonist is a bit lame at times (I think partially by design), but the premise is fun and is executed very well. The scenes when things start ramping up have some great stunt work and chaos. A very enjoyable watch.

Usually I try and keep some objectivity in my ratings but this score is ENTIRELY from how much fun it was to be in a packed cinema screen with everyone constantly laughing their asses off at this ridiculous movie. Seeing reviews about it being scary and effectively dramatic are perplexing to me. This shit is an absurdist masterpiece, but seemingly almost completely by accident.

Awesomely charming, but suffers from what i like to call the Gilliam syndrome: characters frustratingly mucking through sewers instead of getting from point A to B. Still, well deserving of its cult status.

Man, the 80s were terrible.
Still, must confess i probably woulda enjoyed it more if i saw it in a theatre, back when it was made. It goes very smoothly on that cliche pattern of thrilling you through characters doing stupid, reckless stuff at times of crisis.

Small-scale (human-scale) apocalyptic thriller. (You have an hour and ten minutes until the strike. What do you do?) Coincidence continues to play a large role thereafter -- a too-large role -- and a vein of quirky humor somewhat deflates the tension. But the finale concentrates on pumping up that tension, and the movie overall has both a broadness of vision (all of evolution) and a closeness (a couple of star-crossed lovers).
