Mindanao

The film doesn't dare to dig deeper into the conflict that's tearing the large and diverse island of Mindanao apart. Instead it's a a story of young girl dying of cancer with storybook animation thrown in to lighten the depressive mood. Nicely captured, with the cultural beauty of the island making it appealing visually. Brillante Mendoza creates a realistic feel, but I wish the story had done more to build the emotion, for it moves too slowly without any peak points.
