The Brits try to interpret Henri Murger's Scenes de la Vie Bohéme with Gertrude Lawrence as Mimi (1935) and Douglas Fairbanks Jr. as the attraction, the quality bearer and carrier of emotion. They really needed Fairbanks for Mimi to work. The direction is nothing extraordinary so his star power and talent was what made the film mildly good.
