A small country on the verge of bankruptcy is persuaded to enter the Olympics. Either a masterpiece of absurdity or a triumph of satire, depending on your mood, but it's quite possibly the funniest movie ever made, and even funnier with subsequent viewings. (imdb)

The kind of very specific comedy nonsense that wouldn't be seen for another 50 years until ZAZ pratfalled into fashion. The physical gags are great, but even better is the choice pre-code dialog. One woman to another: "You blondine overstuffed cooch-dancer!... If I can't make you come with me, I'm not half the man my father is!" I can bathe in this stuff. Great double feature with Hausu.

Viewed March 10, 2022. A bizarre, often hilarious comedy about the Olympics, a fictional European country run by President W.C. Fields, and his daughter Susan Fleming getting romanced by annoying American Jack Oakie. The gags frequently push into surreal territory (every woman in the country is named Angela; the truly arresting images of Fields and his secretaries trying to tear down a wall) and the breakneck pacing makes it feel like a collective fever dream.

Contains some nice inspired moments of Marxian/Hellzapoppin lunacy.

Paramount collects all the old Hollywood clowns for a Olympic parody! Jack Oakie as the freshest face and fasted mouth gets the main role as the most sane clown as the coach while the rest of the Klopstokians gets to represent the fantasy nation in the LA games. W.C. Fields is the president and world class weightlifter, Andy Clyde runs faster then a goat. Ben Turpin.... what was he doing there?! He just had the evil cross-eye. It's all silly.... in a good way.

This is Oakie's show, and he delivers, but you could always use a little more Fields. Still pretty funny. I actually laughed out loud in a few spots.
