I remember this movie! ...and the fact that it exists is about all I remember about it.

This movie brought tears to my eight year old eyes. If only it could do the same now.

To try and get the ratings number system on the site to make more sense (a movie with a score of 60 is "bad"?, everything from 50 to 0 is "terrible"???), I apparently need to rate more "bad" movies. I try not to watch bad movies - don't you? So I'm going to try giving things I would NEVER purposely watch a 1, just in case the number 0 doesn't register with the algorithm the site uses

A few of the special effects are worth watching but the rest of it certainly seems a complete and utter rip off of King Kong. Don't bother with this, for it pales compared to any of the three King Kongs--even the '76 version.

I only saw the ending of this giant shitfest, and I'm glad I missed the beginning... "Brought to the US for safety reasons"??? wtf? Save yourself the cost of a movie rental...

I liked the gorilla effects but the story is a poor variation of an old King Kong story.

As a child living in Africa, Jill Young (Charlize Theron) saw her mother killed while protecting wild gorillas from poachers led by Andrei Strasser (Rade Serbedzija). Now an adult, Jill cares for an orphaned gorilla named Joe -- who, due to a genetic anomaly, is 15 feet tall. When Gregg O'Hara (Bill Paxton) arrives from California and sees the animal, he convinces Jill that Joe would be safest at his wildlife refuge. But Strasser follows them to the U.S., intent on capturing Joe for himself.

Quite good and touching. Charlize is so good in this, and hot, too. Better than the original. And it's also a million times better than both of the King Kong films.

Very boring movie, just for kids, with a lesson of moral idiot in the end.

A 2000 pound gorilla that is more logically the size of a 4 ton gorilla does a bad imitation of King Kong in this family friendly heart-warmer. It's pretty boring and even though anything with Charlize Theron looking so pretty gets points, other actors are no good in it, such as the ever so annoying Bill Paxton. I consider it to be the non-royalty version of King Kong. Total crap!

Boring and pointless. If you love gorrillas or animal stories then you may find something to like here. Even so, you should stick with the original.

Okay the first half of this picture is rote, dull, & annoying, but by the final scenes i'm sucked in and sniffing with the other succeptible morons who see this. Yes, the effects are (for the most part) cool.

This is a heart touching movie. the bounding between joe & jill is very good.the beast have mercy & love but some humans have lake of these.this movie gives you region to love with animals

Bill Paxton is the man. Mighty Joe Young is no King Kong.

Don't watch this blatant rip-off. You're going to want to hurt people.

King Kong, meet the cousin that nobody likes to talk about. His name is Joe, Joe Young that it. First clue that one giant ape story is enough, Joe Young isn't even royalty. Nope, he's just mighty. This movie isn't worth watching, even for Charlize Theron. Because if you watch it for her, that also means you have to watch Bill Paxton.

A real gorilla would pick this movie up and throw it, cause it is a piece of shit. It is boring and predictable and I doubt even children will like it. I gave it a 45 because some of the effects are decent and for the early Naveen Andrews sighting.

Just because you CAN remake MIGHTY JOE YOUNG doesn't mean you should.

Follows a pretty Hollywood, formulaic script. Would have been good if we saw Charlize Theron's tits. We did not, and instead got a wacky, slightly larger than average gorilla film.
