Spanning decades and generations, celebrated Canadian filmmaker Deepa Mehta's highly anticipated adaptation of Salman Rushdie's Booker Prize®-winning novel is an engrossing allegorical fantasy in which children born on the cusp of India's independence from Britain are endowed with strange, magical abilities. This epic saga of magical realism was always destined to be a difficult adaptation to the big screen. It may have worked better as a mini series because so much of the novel was excised and many concepts and characters were abrogated. It also suffers from what I'd like to designate as the 'cloud atlas' effect. If you haven't read the novel some of the story can appear disjointed or many scenes unnecessary. I just think that if you want to tackle such a grandiose novel, do it right. Mediocre.

felt excruciatingly too long. the characters are undeveloped, the idea - not fulfilled. the only good thing about it is the beautiful colours.

Beautiful, but they should never have let Salman Rushdie write the screenplay. 25% of the movie could have been cut and it would have been a better film.

Deepa Mehta her ne kadar tatlus bir kadin olsa da bu film daginikligi ve film roman yapmanin imkansizligindan dolayi pek iyi olamamis.
