"Merlusse" is French schoolboy slang for codfish, and M. Blanchard, a professor at a certain lycée, was known to his victims by that name. On Christmas eve, when some twenty of the students--orphans, foreigners or just plain "unwanteds"--had to remain in the boarding school, Merlusse is placed in charge.

Only a minor work from Marcel Pagnol. Something one is warned about in the re-issue print available as they give excuses about the limited technical means that was at his disposal when making Merlusse (1935). It's about a boy's boarding school and a teacher set to guide the kids the best he can. Can't say the comic elements, nor much of the dramatics worked all that well on me, but it does have a sweet ending.
