Ann Williams, secretary to eccentric drama critic Frederick Skeates, is persuaded to alter a ruinous review of Shakespearean actor Edmund Davey by Davey's wife Barbara. Secretary Hopkins gives a rave review to an actor her drama critic boss despised, setting into motion a farce that slowly turns to melodrama as she falls for the actor in question... who's married to his Desdemona. Smartly directed, with terrific mid-30's period flavor, plus lovely music as frosting on the cake. Hopkins is terrific.

Miriam Hopkins in England! Starts out promising, but then it turns dreadfully boring for a long period of passionless courting. The emotional climax scene is quite good. Wakes one up from a daze for sure! But one can't help but feel this story could have been handled much better.
