Gets going in fine style. Beautiful, action-filled and intriguing, even if a little complicated told. But they didn't exactly have a well planned-out ending so the concluding half loses almost all the momentum built during the quality portion of this sword rivalry. Appreciate it for the first half, for it had a lot of nice bits.

Entertaining and visually very strong epic film from Korea. The cinematography is quite stunning and crisply filmed with great colour and wonderful sets. The story is good enough to keep one interested throughout the two hours, and the acting is also quite good.

Three warriors, Poong-chun, Wol-so and Yu-baek, commit to a battle against the incompetent king. But Yu-Baek's betrayal leads to Poong-chun's death, after which Wol-so disappears with Poong-chun's young daughter, Hong-yi. Eighteen years later, Wol-so is abandoned by Hong-yi, who plans to take revenge on both Wol-so and Yu-baek.

Think Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon with Kdrama levels of melodrama and you'd be close to this film. While the acting from all involved was quite good, it was with the characters that I had some issues with. For me Seol-hee, the main character was the weakest part of the story and I thought that they should've killed or sidelined her and made the main characters the much more interesting Seol-rang & Deok-gi. The ending was a bit disappointing.
