If Chevy Chase could disappear in all of his movies, that would make them so much better...

Good effects and for one of the few times in history Chevy Chase doesn't drag the score down. Still a bit of a bore, especially considering Carpenter behind the helm.

This is not a good film, but there is something very charming about it, and god help me there are a few moments where Chevy makes me laugh out loud. Probably the last film in which Chevy can claim to be entertaining in. Watchable.

It isn't awful, just awkward too often, with some poor casting.

Probably the most forgettable film in Carpenter's library, and the end to quite an impressive run that started way back with Assault on Precinct 13th. Nothing is overtly bad, but Chevy Chase is neither funny nor menacing. This gives way to the problem of tone as I have no idea what this is trying to be.

A repetitive retelling of the story, it goes nowhere and squanders the few interesting implications it has.

It was a curious collaboration--both Carpenter and Chase desperately needed a hit--but Memoirs wasn't the right vehicle for either of them because it didn't play to their strengths. The plot was an entirely routine take on the invisible man concept that is totally devoid of surprises. Chase was simply miscast in the lead role which required him to play it relatively 'straight', thus neutering his appeal, while Carpenter was in assignment mode, providing functional direction for his employers.

I will echo that this film is very underrated. The title is very apt & the story is exactly what you expect it to be. As a bonus, the "memoirs" are artfully written & expertly acted. Very few films carry out a script the way this one does. That is what makes it stand out in my opinion. There is too much time wasted spent watching government agent's chasing Chevy down, which gets cheesy at times, but overall I enjoyed the storyline. It is also not too "fake" despite the incredulous concept.

This Warner film might be a bit dated or hardly a work with Carpenter's signature, but the visual effects work till this day and this is still a narrative provoked by the director's mixed feelings about science (the man became invisible because of a scientific accident, and scientists just can't reverse it, while some government psychos stalk him). Chase is funny, afraid and delicate in this variation of the typical yuppie horror film -- here, the blonde doesn't really put the guy in danger.

Not great story but some very impressive special effects (very early CGI). As usual, Chevy Chase overpowers anything redeeming though. Also, the best score in a Carpenter movie EVER.

The special effects are quite well done for the time, and Chevy Chase is fun as always. But this movie ends up being a bit bland in retrospect.

I would have preferred a movie much more faithful to the book. Nonetheless this spy nonsense is fun. The casting of Chevy Chase is right on, believe it or not, since the invisible-man movies have resembled fantasy/comedy more than horror ever since Claude Rains had this gig. The great special effects help a lot

Troubled from the word go, with Chevy Chase as executive producer, trying to relaunch his somewhat stalled career. Naturally, there were "issues". Sam Neill shines as the CIA Official though. Toe knee :-)

A general rule is to avoid all Chevy Chase post-1989. This film is a testament to that rule. Includes the most lifeless and vanilla direction Carpenter has lent a film. This bland, tepid effort gives clues of post-production tampering.
