Mei shao nian zhi lian

The movie tries too hard to be dramatic and romantic and fails. The whole thing rings false and hollow and the story is just a bunch of random clips with a voiceover by the underused Brigitte Lin and barely on-screen Shu Qi. The film is most interesting by featuring early performances from Shu Qi, Daniel Wu, and Stephen Fung.

Forget gay tones or undertones. This film is completely gay melodrama. I repeat, this film is GAY! That aside, it's very strong visually. Yonfan, master of HK gay dramas, knows his way around camera. Streets of HK are shown like I've never seen before, it could have easily been the streets of Italian oldtown. Story is a bit too messy and relies too much on the chance of the meeting. Might be good for the big fans of melodramas, but for me this film is too sappy and artificial.
