Meet Me in the Bathroom

As much as I enjoyed a trip down memory lane, this is a pretty dry, directionless piece. It sort of just goes "here are some cool bands, look at them doing music". There's no commentary, there's no depth. There's no story. It all just happens. There's nothing to connect any of it together.

Great era of music, but this film simply doesn't capture the excitement or drama of it very well, unlike the book. Poorly edited and constructed. No cohesion, rhyme or reason. A bit too much attention to YYYs, James Murphy, and The Strokes while not even mentioning a bunch of bands that were part of the original story--Jonathan Fire Eater, The Walkmen, and Vampire Weekend to name a few. But without much video or interviews, it's limited--mostly all cutting-room floor MTV stock footage.

great to see they have finally documented these bad bands

Pretty ordinary documentary that tries too hard to cover a big scene of indie music and ends up failing big time.

Feels empty and lifeless. If I had to show this to someone who wasn't around for this era, the documentary would not help them understand what they missed.

Decent companion piece to the book...but not a great standalone doc.
