A new romance between factory workers Yôji (Issei Takahashi) and Sachiko (Aoba Kawai) is going well -- that is, until aliens invade Earth and implant themselves into tumor-like growths on human shoulders. When Sachiko is attacked and transformed into a slave cyborg, it's up to the half-infected Yôji to rescue his lover. Co-directors Jun'ichi Yamamoto and Yudai Yamaguchi surround their tender love story with a rollickingly gross splatter-fest. (Netflix)

The lack of budget really shows but it's decent once it gets going.

Top badass moment? It's so romantic. The shared love of Yôji and Sachiko, helping them to overcome the power of the alien parasites, before making the ultimate sacrifice. Well, bollocks to that. People turned into machines, blood, gross stuff and that unique Japanese touch that goes into films like this, is far more badass. Give me a huge gun growing out of someone's chest any day of the week over a candlelit dinner for two. No cats or chainsaws and 1 decapitation, (plus a head that blows up).

Sorely lacks the humor and charm that render its brethren such as Machine Girl entertaining.

Japanese body horror, think Tetsuo: Iron Man in colour and with more of a "romantic" subplot. Not too shabby even if it gets very repetitive and, obviously, weird.

Fans of Tokyo Gore Police who haven't seen this yet need to get this now. Awesome latex prosthetics and over-the-top gore. Plus, little alien dudes who drive around in assimilated human borgs.

There's a thrown together story that explains why these people in huge Gwar-getups are brutally, viscerally fighting each other and then BAM. They're fighting. It's outrageous, it's violent, it's bloody, gorey, and it's wonderful. It's the perfect streamlined splatter film. The plot really does little more than establish the basic premise and motives of the characters and the rest is all mayhem of the over-the-top variety.
