As a movie not a good a the original, but the songs and the cast are great. Reneé Rapp goes hard as Regina George.

I’m a huge Mean Girls fan, and it was everything I had expected before seeing the new remake.

Exists wholly within the shadow of its original. In fact the story mostly gets lost within not especially memorable songs. Auliʻi Cravalho as Janis is the only new cast member who feels like they find a fresh spin, everyone else just feels like a devolved take on their original. Renee Rapp just ain’t Rachel McAdams, sorry. In fact it feels like most of Regina’s edge has been sanded off; she just barely even feels mean or like an antagonist. Janis is as antagonistic as Regina in this version.

Those who like the original or musicals should like this. A lot of the jokes are exactly the same, but there's enough new to make it fun. Karen (Avantika) and Regina (Renee Rapp) are incredible. Songs are generic musical style, but they're still catchy. It feels like someone watched "The Prom" and Mean Girls back to back then wrote this.

Maybe I'm just nostalgic for the original, but I didn't think it was as bad as I'd heard. The pacing felt rushed because the songs felt forced in, and I don't think added as much on a screen as they probably do in person. But I think it retains enough of the original humor, with a few changes, to still be entertaining and get laughs, and I thought for the most part the new cast did a good job. It's just hard standing up to a classic.

At this point I suspect that any musical automatically gets an extra 10 points from me, but I had a blast! They got a great cast for this and wrote good songs, so that you end up with something that enhances the original instead of merely copying it.

Pales in comparison to the OG of course, and the music is not particulalry incredible. But it does an acceptable job of bringing the themes of the original story to 2024, even at a time when the concept of the classic high school "clique" is basically non-existant . The integration of modern tech and social media is done well.

It’s hard to adapt musicals, and the singing and dancing numbers are so poorly staged that they’re borderline inept, with dreadful choreography and unwieldy set pieces. The film’s biggest stumbling block is simple, though: the music just isn’t good.

Almost the same script, word for word, only this time it doesn't deliver because the jokes aren't as funny the second time around. Hearing the same dialogue as the original only made me yearn for the original cast.

Like the original, this Mean Girls movie tries way too hard and constantly tries to hit you over the head with its schtick, but its lacks any appeal and effect.

Other than adding songs, this new musical doesn't deviate at all drastically from the plot of the original film. With Tina Fey's stamp of approval and some previous appearances from Fey, Tim Meadows, and a secret cameo near the end, it does feel like a sanctioned reimagining of the cult classic and, as such, is pretty enjoyable. I don't think it has quite the biting commentary the first film had, but the songs are pretty catchy and there are some fun performances.

If you can't update a film with new themes or a different perspective or updated culture, just make it a musical. As far as musicals go, this film is pretty mid. While none of the performances are bad, none of the music is playing in my head after the credits roll. In 20 years, high school hasn't changed much, save for femininity having got more toxic. The gym apology scene remains the high point of the film. Lohan felt like an outsider, Rice never did. What happened to Cady's dad? Unnecessary.

On the one hand, most of what is new or different from the original is just not good. But it copies enough from the original that is great, that this still ends up being pretty fun overall. The music itself was nothing special or memorable, unfortunately. The new Damian and the new Mrs. George were two standouts for me.

Safe to say the original was a million times better and making it a musical was just dumb.

It's not bad, but I don't think it needed to exist. I think it probably works a lot better on stage than it does here. On screen, you can't help but compare it to the original, and white parts of it hold up well, there are plenty of areas that fall flat, and nothing that feels better than the original, so overall it feels underwhelming. Also, I normally like Angourie Rice, but I don't think she was the right pick for this role.

It's just very uninspired. I guess I don't particularly care that much for the original Mean Girls either, but this felt blander. I didn't like the music. Love how Janis was like "We tried to ruin Regina's life, so I'm apologizing... to me 😇", like, okay girl. Her song about "female empowerment" was very 2004, so they stayed true to the original's release date.

Most of the songs are fine, but their inclusion is sometimes corny, and not in an endearing way. That might be a me problem since I'm not a musical fan. It elicited a few solid laughs, and I wasn't bored. Decent performances all around. The ending was genuine enough to be slightly emotional. But it all felt so mild compared to what I remember from the OG, lacking any real bite.

W3E2P2S1V1M1A2R1. Never know how to rate a remake when it's biggest strength is the source material. But this was a pretty interesting way to do it--borrowed just enough songs from the musical so you can justify the remake, but few enough that it's a pretty straight adaptation/update of the original movie. Excellent singing from everyone other than the lead.
