Less substantial than it wants to be, but there are some pretty funny moments. Typical "Sundance bait"... quirky, multiple storylines interconnecting, hints of perversion. It's basically the lighter side of Happiness. Watchable but not that memorable.

While a little too studiously quirky at times, July's utter conviction, sincerity and confidence in her material and actors makes this a quietly rewarding experience; the presentation of some potentially confronting material in such a whimsical, even poetic way is a delicate high-wire act worthy of praise (a climactic encounter on a park bench could have gone wrong in so many ways!) Whatever else, a fascinating and intriguing original.

This is tough to describe. It comes off as a 90's indie film released in the aughts. It's a romantic comedy, but the characters aren't clean cut. And it has hilarious kids, but isn't a movie for teens. Yet it works. Miranda July creates a sweet story of introverted people yearning for an idealized emotional goal. As a piece of art, it gets to wonderful heights via mood alone. And by the end, when you weren't laughing, you were smiling--like in the wonderfully executed sidewalk stroll scene.

The great irony about movies like Me And You And Everyone We Know is that it's a movie desperately trying to portray humanity's desire to connect with one another while completely failing to connect with me 'the viewer' on any sort of emotional level, with a few exceptions. Miranda July is coming from a good place, but her movie felt dishonest and forced and unfunny and I just wanted it to end. I'm a sucker for sentimentality but c'mon, you have to work harder than this. Also, the music :|.

Standard indie fare in the shadow of Solondz that copies some aspects of his work without adding a new touch to it. A few funny instances of immature humor, but generally too superficial to make a lasting impression.

July wrote, directed and stars in this quirky, offbeat film that has a unique perspective on relationships and connection in a post-internet world. All the characters are an interesting mix of loveable and creepy, even with middling performances from the actors. July takes what could have been disturbing and makes it sweet. Well-structured and well-paced, with a plucky score throughout; I really enjoy this film. ))>((

It can be slow, boring, awkward, and dated, but at its core is a really lovely film about human existence. The film bounces back and forth between simplistic realism and moments of existentialism. The acting while not all that great fits July's vision excellently. I especially love all of the relationships that are formed during this film.

me and you and a few people we barely know is an auteur piece, for sure. it's aggressively personal, it's made by miranda july for miranda july. she has neat ideas, interesting tidbits, vignettes that make you smile, but all in all it's like an ephemeral art project. you end up barely remembering what has transpired. meh all round, might be more appealing if you're a young woman.

This indie self-absorbing, artsy picture wants to win you over with some some arresting turns, extremely eccentric and loser and lonely characters and a poetic narrative. Well, sorry, Miranda, but I just don't care about anyone in this film -- even though they try hard to show they are fucked up as hell in this post-modern, digitally designed world.

"Happiness" and "Magnolia" type indie, with a bunch of parallel plot-lines all slight, underdeveloped and mismatched. We have the filmmaker playing in the main romance what inadvertently comes off as a very creepy female stalker. We have a schmaltzy and insubstantial elderly relationship. Most of the rest is child sexuality, including - most irksomely - a preteen boy with scatological interests. It's all set to new-age music and has that blunt, gratuitous symbolism that indie movies do.

A couple of good scenes, but this movie really annoyed me. From the beginning I kept thinking "Are they trying to parody quirky indie movies or something?" It was that ridiculous to me. The characters were standard cookie cutter indie characters. The kids acted and spoke like adults, and the adults acted immature. Garbage.

I won't lie, it's an odd one. With an air of the surreal and absurd, this quirky story has an undeniable Napoleon Dynamite feel to it.
Perhaps a little quirky for the sake of it, but it's well structured with some interesting twists and turns. A cavalcade of different characters and stories that overlap and intertwine as they progress, it never feels rushed, loose ends are mostly tied off but not in a hugely conclusive way.
Very much a presentation of the lives of some odd humans. Worth a watc

Not many of these quirky characters' interactions come across as particularly organic or realistic, and the overlapping stories all lack cohesion and pass by without any kind of satisfying conclusion. While it's not boring per se, July simply tries too hard to be deep and unconventional, and in the end there's very little to take away from the experience.

I'm quite a sucker for quirky presentations but this one takes it way too far. From one awkward scene to the next accompanied by music that doesn't fit at all and with no interest in any of the characters nothing worked out here. There were two scenes with some emotional impact or development, that's about it. At least it's only 90 minutes long.

Brilliance in film is truly unmistakeable hence the reason this film is unforgettable. Miranda July's debut is impeccable, with an insight into individuals restricted by a seemingly claustrophobic existence. The performances are driven by sheer humanity and the script while dark in thematic matter provides wit and sly humour that eclipses most indie films.
