Decent British 'Escape From Alcatraz' that doesn't quite manage to match up to its American counterpart. Daltrey is convincing in the title role and the main chunk of the film grabs your interest throughout, but the before/after prison scenes fail to keep this pace up and the difference is noticeable. Seems a bit strange that McVicar's eventual transition to successful journalist is only a footnote before the closing credits.
