A story that's been told many times, but a nice story nonetheless.

This movie seems to follow an archetype for sentimental sports movies to a tee. It's level is raised by the presence of Costner, who is always believable in an every man role. You could do worse, but again, you could also do better.

Really good film. Some amazing scenes in it that take your breath away. Maybe it is because of the predictability that it works, you don't think about what will happen because you already know. What is left is to enjoy a well thought out well acted and heartwarming film. I would totally watch McFarland, USA again sometime. 70/100.

I love it. White man enslaves people around the world and in his back yard, only to come back and save a few of them so that the hordes of people can continue working for peanuts all their lives in hope that the American Dream is still possible. I love you Blanco. But I love you more Disney. Remember The Million Dollar Arm? Exact same story, except Hindus=Mexican Americans.

Doesn't really do much outside of your usual sports movie, but I must say it was very refreshing to see Latinx culture portrayed in a way that shows appreciation and acceptance. The father/daughter dynamic could have been built up much more and the actual montage scenes are just kind of standard, but the movie does great work with its planting and payoff and the story is a true and inspirational one, so I can definitely say it was worth the watch.

Another white man story, but once you read the true story, you see that it's a bit more dramatized, well one can understand the time limits.
I enjoyed this more than I should, thanks mostly to the cast.
Too cliche and not much original but I love success stories so..

Classic Disney, pushing the right emotional buttons and it usually works very well, this is no exeption. What is more important thought, is reminding people how the world really works.

Feel good story based on a real events. Enjoyed the life lessons going both ways, the coach and the kids showed some growth. This is the kind of role that Kevin Costner was born to play.

Disney know perfectly well how to form those inspirational true stories. McFarland, USA (2015) with Kevin Costner does such thorough job that even the 'family movie' haters must admit that it's viewable. Brings in current politics portraying Mexican-American's in a positive light, delivers the underdog perspective and shows that race & classes can work together for a better future, even in an out-back town as McFarland. Simply heart-touching.

Reinforces benign, standard, heartwarming values. Which would be great--if it didn't rely on conveying them through the most expedient means possible: templated plot formula, cringe-worthy cliches/tropes, overbearing and omnipresent musical score, etc. It hits all the correct notes of the inspirational sports subgenre so closely on the head that you start to suspect that it might not be as "true" a story as Disney suggests. Falsity is the enemy of feeling--nearly every turn is a manipulation.

Maybe 10 or 15 minutes too long, but I'll keep watching these Disney-"true-story"-sports-movies as long as I don't get bored, and I end up with a smile on my face. *Good

It follows the old formula of other inspirational sports dramas, where someone who against all odds succeeds through hard work and overcoming any obstacles thrown in their way. But despite the predictability, it's a movie that proves that the formula still works and manages to charm you throughout and leaves you with that feelgood vibe.

But this is a movie that's not just about running like crazy for the sake of a winning medal. It's about racing toward and then enjoying the rewards of hard work and friendship, community and intercultural acceptance and understanding. (pluggedin.com)

I knew what was going to happen, and I've seen the same stories many times, but I liked all of the characters in it, and their story gave me warm feelings and courage to keep going. Every one of us are running for different reasons, and this is a part of the USA.
