After a carnival party the famous painter Heidenick draws his otherwise engaged girlfriend Anita Helfer with very few clothes on, only blurs her face. The image makes it into the newspaper the next day - but since he can't tell the model's name without offending her influential fiancée, he comes up with the fictional name Leopoldine Dur. (imdb)

Maskerade is a fairly typical popcorn love story. But it's a very nicely done Austrian movie set in Vienna, 1905 about an artist who through a made-up story ends up meeting a pretty girl. However there are several twists that make it rather difficult, including a married woman and a jealous former lover. The story is well written and well shot by Willi Forst making it a joy to watch.
