Hobart Bosworth brings the first screen adaptation of Jack London's novel Martin Eden. The available print is in rough shape and missing the two middle-reels. Bosworth doesn't do bad behind the camera, but of course it's 1914 so techniques are basic. Based on style of time, Martin Eden manages to a lot out of very simple shots, much thanks to Lawrence Peyton taking the lead with a lot of positive energy. And it's with that it leaves a mildly positive impression for such a damaged early feature.
