Married Life

Unbelievably mediocre despite the fine performances.

I liked that in a weird way it did not address its own darkness. Aside from that it wasn't very memorable.

Married Life is a disappointing movie when you consider all of the potential that it had. A Hitchcockian plot, a strong cast, an interesting period in time, and a balancing act of genres. All of this is underutilized. The two male leads are given some strong scenes but both women are barely used, the plot isn't thrilling even when it should be, the film comes across as tonally inconsistent thanks to its competing genres, and while the period is authentic it isn't used to benefit the film.

One dimensional characters. Writing does not develop them or their motivations. Scoundrel makes good. Ultimately an empty statement.

Interesting time period and decent cast but it really falls flat on tension and consistency.

An odd film about marital infidelity and the potentially murderous lengths some will go to in order to end a relationship. Director Ira Sachs never seems to settle into a tone. One moment it's borderline satire, then it's winking intrigue, then a somber tale of heartache. It never truly gels. There's a nicely restrained performance by Chris Cooper at the heart of it, even if it sometimes gets lost in the film's meandering focus.

Got too bored quit watching it.

The acting is better than the direction, and it kind of peters out at the end. But I found it strangely tense and compelling.

Very Good. An interesting look at the nature of love and companionship. Chris Cooper turns in an oscar-worthy performance as the noble cheat, Harry Allen, who believes he is the biggest betrayer while getting the shaft from everyone around him. A very good story brought very capably to screen.. Must watch.

Married Life is a tony, well-upholstered vehicle that glides smoothly toward its destination-but despite an unnecessary and overly sentimental coda, that destination isn't necessarily where you thought you were going all along.

A poisoning subplot is the one item that distinguishes this from any other infidelity drama. I have to wonder what it was about this story that inspired someone to go to the effort of putting together such a cast to such little effect.

This is one of those everyone-sleeps-with-everyone-else movie, but with some solid performances by Chris Cooper and Patricia Clarkson.

Not a bad flick, although maybe I'm too young to appreciate the execution?

Much more interesting than FAR FROM HEAVEN. And better made, too... With far more watchable actors; Patricia Clarkson is always a favorite. And Chris Cooper and Pierce Brosnan just keep getting better with every film they make...

Damn the director for providing us with this look at Rachel McAdams in perhaps one of her worst roles in years. Chris Cooper mostly just stunk up the screen with a bland lifeless performance, and Pierce Brosnan was mostly tedious and unconvincing. Neither men were well suited to these roles. Annabel Kershaw owned every scene she is in with her fabulous and flawless character performance. Basically, I disliked most of the story and the telling of it.
