Marlina the Murderer in Four Acts

Strikingly photographed present day call-back to 60s-70s spaghetti westerns, combining tributes to Leone and Peckinpah in its depiction of sudden violence disturbing the epic-scale landscape. Unfortunately, the film lacks the confident voice of its forebears - its serious criticisms of the "patriarchy" feel out of place in this heightened and melodramatic world - it also tends to drain much of the energy from the finished product. Still a fun one to look at, especially for fans of the genre.

Boring even if you can see the whole thing.

Trendy revenge-against-the-patriarchy fantasy, with some nice surrealist touches among the pulpy Western vibes, but cutting the head off a snake doesn't make a feature.

If Tarantino had been born in Indonesia, this is the kind of movie he'd be making. For just like with his movies, the story is negligible, but works as a way to deliver beautiful images (and, in this case, a good serving of local Indonesian flavor).
