This Nazi girl story takes you all over the place! Too much to truly take root, but when it wanted to it was spectacular with ideas. Cécile Aubry was an amazing creature!

The last act of the movie (in the desert) is incredible. Their story is basically a quest for heaven but always walking in a desert. Manon is such a great character. Clouzot's adaptation of the story to a 20th century context makes it even more dramatic. Here Manon doesn't die as a consequence of a dispute for her love, but because Desgrieux murdered the man that caused their separation at the time.
