The ending is a product of its time, but up to there it's a good "trapped man" story.

Easily the most convincing cockney accent in movie history. Well done Joan Bennett!

"Man Hunt" is a prewar propaganda piece featuring a superhero-like English gentleman who views romance as beneath him. While the plot may seem silly, it’s told so compellingly that you can't help but enjoy it. Not knowing what the future brings, a 1941 audience would be even more engaged, and its ending would be more impactful.

FINALLY got to this one! I saw the remake called Rogue Male, with Peter O'Toole and really liked it. This original is superior. Well made and a thriller that still holds up. Kudos to Walter Pidgeon, Joan Bennett and George Sanders.

Average wartime thriller, with decent performances from smarmy Sanders and the just-spooky-looking Carradine. The love story really slows down the titular hunt, and the too-patriotic ending is eye-rollingly bad. The true "man hunt" portions are pretty good, though, especially the cave sequence. Disappointingly, the chess board is set up incorrectly in the opening, and the Criterion Channel once again doesn't have subtitles translating the German lines.

Good suspense, middling romance. Joan Bennett gives her all with the accent, which makes the fact that George Sanders and Walter Pidgeon don't even try to affect an accent a little distracting. Drags at parts and you get the idea that Lang was handcuffed significantly. Some of the speechmaking from Pidgeon seems a bit over the top before you remember the context (a film made in the US before the US was in the war) and that it is essentially a call to arms/propaganda piece by Lang.

While the main affair seems largely implausible, the story unravels intriguingly and the performances fit.

When Fritz Lang goes a-hunting it always shapes a thrilling cat & mouse game! What a aim that start had! Got on the edge of the seat right from the get-go and that's how it was most of the way. Joan Bennett with a cockney accent was a little hard to take, but credit to her dialect teacher for making it work as well as it did. Walter Pidgeon was the real surprise with some fine delivery and upper-class morals. Fritz Lang's invaluable influence!

The stunning climax with the cave redeems this rather dull affair. And even when it is dull, Joan Bennett is supercute and keeps it at least somewhat engaging. Her facial expressions bring to mind great silent films.

Why do people care if this is a propaganda film?

Really slick noir that lives up to its title. Bennett is wonderful with a character that has to show resolve and vulnerability. The script doesn't give her a whole lot, but she gives every scene she's in a life and complexity that contrasts well with the rest of the film's steadfast determination and world shattering consequences. The male leads are strong as well, equal rivals in an international game of cat and mouse. There is a bit of war effort chearleading, but it's not too distracting.

A hastily put together Anti-Nazi propaganda film, this B movie thriller shows only occasional traces of the Lang genius. Pidgeon and Bennett give indifferent performances.

Hardly a trace of Lang's murky morality deconstructions that I've come to love. Man Hunt reads like early Hitchcock - entertaining, but too safe for its own good.

Obvious and preachy propaganda framed in a thin, contrived thriller. Lang's noirish visual stamp can't excuse terrible script and acting. You'd think that a man being persecuted and pursued by Nazis wouldn't have the time to be so smug and jaunty. The British accents, phoned in by American and Canadian leads, are laughable.

One of Lang's better American productions, a mighty fun thriller. It does sag a little bit at times, but builds to an amazing climax. Gloomy cinematography that helps set the stage for noir. It's a treat to see Pidgeon and Sanders square off... two of the best voices in movies. And Bennett is great too. The film provides a lot of thrills, traps and tension, and topical subject matter as well. A real treat, a movie that manages to be fun and yet isn't afraid to explore dark themes.

Effective thriller, marred a bit by Walter Pidgeon and a bit too much emphasis on the love plot. Joan Bennett is very cute in a beret, but the whore with a heart of gold bit wears thin fast.

A "on a chase" film by Fritz Lang that stars Walter Pidgeon, Joan Bennett, George Saunders and John Carradine. Pidgeon plays a big game hunter and he's got the biggest of them all right In his scope and through that scope he sees the fuhrer. Wanted attempted assasination, Pidgeon goes on the run from the Nazi to arrive back in London and met and nestled up with Bennett's character. The ending is one of the greatest and heart-pounding scenes in the film.
