Mammoth

I realised halfway through watching this that a) I wasn’t enjoying it and b) I’d seen it before. I’ve now wasted four hours of my life on this dumb movie

The movie seems to enjoy the contrast between rich and poor in a grotesque manner yet doesn't manage to achieve anything profound. The result is cliché and commonplace up to total boredom or a hidden sarcasm I don't understand. After the previous works of Moodysson, Fucking Amal, Tilsamman and Lilya 4Ever this disappointment leaves me absolutely puzzled.

Lukas Moodyson är Sveriges ende intressante filmregissör för tillfället. Det gör att han har förväntningar att bära. Här lyckas han bara delvis med det. Han tar sig numer oftast an de stora frågorna, men jag börjar tro att han bäst kommer sig rätt i de mindre sammanhangen. Sammanhangen i världen är komplexa och Moodyson vill gärna göra dem enkla (plakatmässiga). Filmen är snygg, den vill mycket, men vi kommer aldrig karaktärerna in på livet. Istället berättas på ett ytlig

feels over pushed at the ending.

Mammoth é um retrato perfeito do mundo. E da condição existente em que mesmo pessoas "boas", pessoas que se importam além da sua classe, seguem vivendo suas vidas depois que episódios isolados de compaixão existem. Seguem ignorando a violenta diferença social, a não ser que ela seja trazida pra dentro do seu convívio.

It's basically Moodysson doing Inarritu but i'm not complaining. Especially with Marcel Zyskind behind the camera.

a well designed drama with some powerful moments... William and Bernal have solid performances...last sentence `we should find a new nanny` is a perfect closing line

not moodysson's best. it was a struggle to stay focused on this.

Kind of boring and commonplace but... interesting also.

Expertly-constructed drama featuring multiple strands which tie into each other and also share a central theme: adults whose subconscious selfishness causes them to lose their loved ones and replace them with more convenient surrogates. As often in Moodysson's films, the only victims in this story are the children. With his character's pondering over the extinction of the titular mammoths, is the director perhaps suggesting that he views mankind as a doomed species too? Bleak, but brilliant.
