This whole movie is an allegory, and for you to understand what it means, you first need to know a bit of Hollywood trivia: It was Jolie who was initially cast for Murder on the Orient Express and was later replaced by Pfeiffer. By the time Jolie dropped out, the costumes were already prepared for her. So now, this is like an allegory of casting wars, and Fanning represents the desired role. Looks like I have another hundred characters to go, but I think you already know this is going nowhere.

Unnecessary sequel is nevertheless a vast improvement over Part 1, freed from the shackles of the BEAUTY narrative, this goes off in its own direction and scores surprisingly well, folding in critiques of xenophobic attitudes (embodied in a deliciously nasty Pfeiffer) and developing a touching and endearing emotional bond between Jolie and Fanning (both excellent). A clunky howler of an opening, and a loud "all-action" finale are forgivable missteps in an otherwise largely enjoyable fantasy.

A sequel that nobody asked for & few were excited about, it manages to be significantly more ambitious & inventive than the first film, taking the world in new directions & bringing in many new elements, & it gets points for that. Jolie, Pfeiffer, Fanning, Skrein & Riley turn in very solid performances, and the effects are often more whimsical than over-the-top. Still, it has some plot issues & the ending doesn't really feel earned. It's enjoyable, maybe more so than the first, but not perfect.

Artificial and majestic. Too much focus on the effects and gloss to get a deep sense of the story. That's the way Disney do things these days.

Even though alot of the CGI looks amazing & the 3 leads are all compelling actresses this isn't as interesting as the first. Part of the problem is the main story is still the same. Despite having Maleficent find her "people", the core of her character doesn't really change. She flirts w/ the idea of going to war, but she's always done that. The theme of nobly choosing to not side w/ "your people" could've worked as a resonant commentary against identity politics, but would Hollywood allow it?

This sequel wastes the mythological concept with a blunt “racism is bad” theme. The entire movie is display of an atrocious plot paired with mediocre acting and terribly written characters. There are no real character dynamics, just characters shouting out their motivation ad nauseam. As the poster character, Jolie either wasn’t available or couldn’t be payed enough to feature in most of the plot.

story is fluff, but credit where credit is due. I didn't think anything could be made of a sequel with how the first film's retelling of Sleeping Beauty ended. I thought it could only be cash-in rehash. And while there's certainly money on this franchise, the story is progressed in an interesting way that allows Maleficent to once more go on a compelling arc walking the line between dark and light, peace and rage.

It may not be as interesting as the first movie, which in itself wasn't the strongest of Disney's live action adaptations of their classic stories, but it's not really... bad exactly. I'd say the same of the first. Both get sub-par scores due to not really particularly leaving an impression much outside of visuals, but the stories themselves are not bad. In fact I think if these were animated we might even be viewing them better. Both competent movies, the first being sligtly better.

Once upon a time a studio made a live-action remake of one of their movies which was actually an attempt at a feminist reinterpretation of the story. Then a bunch of basementdwellers complained about it being about good women and bad men. Then the studio got cold feet and decided to make a sequel featuring a very evil female villain and some nice men. Then they added a bunch of exposition that raised ten times more questions than it answered. Nobody lived happily ever after.

Still need to see the first one, see how this fits into the story. There's something about Angelina Jolie that I add 5-10 points to a film she is in.

Visually stunning. Acting, alright. Story ... lacking. Worth watching once. After that, it may or may not be something you'd turn to on a airplane trip.

There is SO MUCH wrong with this piece of shit of movie that listing its redeeming qualities would be a much more efficient use of my time. Let's see... Angelina Jolie is very attractive. And, uh... That's it, actually. That's LITERALLY all I liked about the movie. I want my two hours back. I actually had to watch one of my favourite movies after this as a palate cleanser; it left such an awful taste in my mouth.

Mah. Un seguito di cui non si sentiva il bisogno e che snatura il messaggio del primo film infilandoci dentro di tutto un po'. La Jolie però è sempre bellissima nella parte e visivamente è spettacolare.

I didn't love the first film, and I enjoyed the sequel even less because it didn't need to be made. Maleficent had an entire character arc in the first film, and it worked really well for what it was, but that arc was crapped on for part two, as the opening narration states it best: "Nobody knows WHY she wasn't accepted...that's just the way it was!" Such a cop-out excuse to make a sequel if ever I've heard one!

When Prince Philip finally dares to propose to Aurora, the hostility that has raged between Ulstead and The Moors for generations seems to end. Aurora even persuades her stepmother Maleficent to accept an invitation to the castle of King John and Queen Ingrith.

I can see this would be a film slightly older kids would enjoy (its a Disney film but I wouldn't necessarily recommend it to, say, the under 10s as there are some somewhat frightening scenes to those easily scared). The CGI isn't too bad and some scenes or elements made me think of a few films - namely Labyrinth, Shrek and Alice in Wonderland. There are some amusing moments and it's fairly entertaining overall, if a little cheesy and even possibly cliched for an older audience.

This flick redefines PG 13 film: No one over 13 should be allowed to watch this. Otherwise it is perfectly fine for any 11 year old girl.

Man, I haven't seen a movie this rote and predictable in ages. Even worse is how lazy it all comes across - the original movie was by no means good, but this recycles that formula and manages to make it even more boring and hamfisted. This wouldn't be so bad if the the acting wasn't so wooden and anything in the film was the least bit entertaining or interesting to look at. It's basically one big CGI flop fest which doesn't have the balls to go truly dark.

Huh. I seem to be in something of the minority on this one but I actually felt that in most measurable ways, this was a step up from the first movie. I thought the visual effects were significantly better, and certain aspects of the story got a little darker, which is an element I felt was sorely lacking in the first. While "darker Disney" is something that may only appeal to a certain part of the audience, I was grateful, as I was for the expansion of the world of the feys. Worth the watch!

I have a feeling that after the pitch meeting everyone made a fantastic effort to ruin everything, and they succeded. The visuals are impressive but the writing and plot devices are terrible. Perhaps expectedly it fails to be internally consistent with a favor for spectacle and nonsense to make allowances for bad writing and time.

On the level of a 12 year old, this works perfectly, but otherwise this film is really a mess. I just don't get the simplicity of it all. There's a masacre, a bloodbath and Maleficent gets murdered in the most cowardly way, but when she rescues Aurora, elves and men are suddenly the best of friends? And that little elf in the basement just changes its ways, no questions asked? What?

War Is Coming.
