Slightly noirish Simenon adaptation in washed-out blue. Nice to see Depardieu here. As a murder mystery, alas, it's pretty meh. Maigret brags at some point that he is often told he asks a lot of questions. He actually asks outrageously few. In general, he's not very professional for a chief inspector. The central clue pretty much falls into his lap courtesy of the coroner.
