Maid of Salem

Interesting story of witchcraft and towns people's superstition. How rumors and fear can create a witch hunt. Sadly the direction doesn't manage to deliver up on it's potential, taking some very simple solution and leaving a lot of the acting feeling uninspired. The bad guys were okay. Claudette Colbert in the lead is sympathetic, but it's a fairly standard performance from her without adding anything. Her secret romantic lead Fred MacMurray looked completely out of place in the 17th century!

A decent example of a early Hollywood period Dramatic Romance.The story is pretty bland by today's standard and the romance never gels into the rest of the picture.For the most part the costumes, acting and cinematography was nice and made this a better film in the end. If you are into classic Hollywood films or the history of film you might want to watch this picture.Other then that this is a film most people can skip.
