Was the acting terrible? Yes. Did I really notice? Not so much.

The third part is also mediocre, but Hayek is good in it.

Kind of loses what made the first one interesting at this point. Still has the beautifully kinetic dance though

First there was a sad, thoughtful movie about exploited strippers. Then, a ridiculous, campy movie about happy strippers. In merging these two polemics, we lose both the depth of the former and the fun of the latter, leaving behind a tepid rom-com that adds only the feeling of what it must be like to attend a real-life MAGIC MIKE stage show. (Now playing in Las Vegas!)

Pretty positive this is not as feminist as it thinks it is. Also completely ridiculous and not in the way that heightens enjoyment. Then again, the entire movie is a very slight excuse to have scantily clad men grind on stuff and it’s possible I’m not the target audience. (Also, a ton of flashbacks to stuff that happened less than 20 minutes ago. Soderberg really cares for the goldfish).

Quite surprising decision to tone down the excess and focus on a small-scale romance in the context of a backstage musical. The teenage voiceover is kind of interesting (if hardly revelatory) when talking about dance, less so when preoccupied by more fashionable concerns. Reflections on the difference between dancers and strippers are slightly amusing for me (I’ve spent a LOT of time with both over the past 20 years), but really, the whole film is about preparing for the great final pas de deux.

I really don’t understand the mixed critical reception this got. Granted, my opinions on the Magic Mike trilogy are not to be trusted (I loved the first film and loved Cody Horn’s performance in it, and I borderline hated the bizarrely over-praised sequel), but I’m certainly not going to take a new good-vibes Steven Soderbergh movie for granted. Just a fun time that does so well everything that the first sequel failed to achieve.

Soderbergh’s horny theatre kid Ted Lasso. Not the best of the trilogy (XXL clears) but people think this is bad!? It’s like Ocean’s Twelve all over again. (Though that one is the actual best of its trilogy.)

Tatum and Hayek's chemistry kinda sorta almost saves this one. Although the way this movie celebrates this dumb neo "feminism" just as much as it makes fun of it by showing how immature and spoiled you'd have to be to be attracted to it wasn't that uninteresting.

Magic Mike's European Vacation. Every time I see her I'm amazed how strong Salma Hayek's sex appeal lives on. Ages like fine vine and all that....

BlurayRip RARBG.

While "Magic Mike's Last Dance" may not be the strongest film in the franchise, it's still a pure pleasure to watch. The dancing is spectacular, the humor is cheeky, and the performances from Tatum and Hayek Pinault are excellent. While the thin script and overreliance on tropes hold the film back, it's still entertaining enough to be worth a watch.

Not awful - charming in some ways. Severely lacking in the characterization and tone required to make this story work. Feels like a misinterpretation of what made the first two so effective. Rather than doubling down on the comedy and set pieces, focuses on a banal love story (the first entry’s biggest weakness) and a surface-level commentary on the creative process. Still, breezy enough to pass the time.

Probably the studio production with the worst narrative I’ve ever seen. Nothing happens and all the while it’s neither a comedy, a drama nor a dance movie (until the final act). A complete shitshow albeit so weird that it left me seriously confounded.

Magic Mike's Last Dance lacks substance as a love story and fails to deliver as a comedy. The storytelling falls short, but it shines in its creative and sexy dance routines performed by talented dancers. It feels more like an extended coda than a proper conclusion.
