Juno Temple's Alicia gets put through the gauntlet of psychological thriller elements, and you are left to catch up when piecing together if it is in her mind or if she is really surrounded by sadists. It's filmed well; rural Chile adds to the creepy factor here, the mood that Silva captures throughout the entire film.

A play on horror movies where the horror movie is only happening to one person. Also a serious look at mental illness and what happens when it pops up in the worst possible circumstances. A hard to watch and often irritating film but if you get into it it's worth it. Temple and Cera are also incredible in it.

The best movie on psychosis i've seen so far. really emphatic and with a strong, yet delicate perspective on the process. I will not call this movie horror. This is a movie about one of the many disturbing flaws that can occor in the human brain. The end of the movie (the drums and bells and theater) is an example of old-fashioned denying of mentall illness, projecting flaws outside the human brain instead of being a part of it. (the other example being the so-called hypnosis: also magic)

The good news: it succeeds in creating a tense and menacing atmosphere all the way through. even michael cera, who i'd never expected to be good at anything besides playing the doofus, delivers solidly. The bad news: if there was a point to all this, it went right past me.

Always thought of Cera as a boring comedic actor, but he pretty much makes this movie his in his role as the weird uncomfortably creepy guy.

Much darker than your average horror film. Madness is far scarier than any supernatural silliness could ever be. I'm glad I've found this.

Some satisfyingly creepy parts (the couch scene). Awesome movie about someone slowly losing their mind.

Between uni field-trips and youth hostelling I've seen city kids suffer from the combination of 'nature shock' and homesickness this captures and runs with. Despite one of the characters being a little too much it's a solid, authentic piece of psych-horror.

Unconvincing psychological elements with a dull and seemingly improvised plot. Some of the visuals are nice, but that's mostly because Chile is a beautiful place with great locaARHGHGH THERES A DOG HUMPING MY LEG GET IT OFF GET IT OFF

It's definitely... intriguing. I mean, generally when there's someone going crazy I am into it. I wouldn't call this a horror though. The tone is weird, especially at the beginning, but once you adjust to what the characters are like, it's an entertaining watch. It does a good job of keeping you guessing whether her friends are good or bad, the ending was kind of meh, but the performances were good, especially by Juno Temple. It hits a somewhat eerie atmosphere, and uses the landscape well.

I remember Michael Cera from Superbad and tought this guy will have a great career. I think it's safe to say that he now has dug himself Down a deep hole after agreeing to do this Movie. Probably top 20 of the worst Movies I have ever seen. Soo boring and pointless. You think it is building up to something but it really isn't. Ending was so bad that i can't find the Words to explain how bad it was! The People that rate this 90+ are just plain retarded!

Absolutely inert. Works hard to do the atmospheric REPULSION thing, but this Sebastian Silva dude ain't no Polanski, and Temple's hysterical in all the wrong ways. Despite all its earnest, self-conscious huffing and puffing, it's dull and oppressively dreary and adds up to nothing in the end. One of the most unsatisfying efforts of the year.

This movie had me intrigued for the most part. I thought Juno Temple was awesome. Michael Cera's character grew on me. I was also a bit annoyed that a lot of this film was subtitled when I wasn't expecting it to be. You get immersed in the mystery surrounding Temple's character. Is she cracking up? Are Emily Browning's friends trying to harm her? As you follow this cast down the rabbit hole you emerge towards a very odd and cowardly ending. The way this ended makes me feel cheated. A shame.

Reminiscent of Polanski's Repulsion in which a young woman falls apart in front of us, the reasons only suggested, this psychological horror movie relies far too much on subtle shifts in tone & not enough on performance & narrative or character details to really be unsettling. Instead, it's a lovely-to-look-at head-scratcher. Good use of the Chilean landscape, though, and for whatever reason, Michael Cera really fags it up.
