As a boy, Andy Duckerman was a summer camp legend at the Institute of Magic, a remote mountain school for talented Illusionists. Now, at 35, he is struggling to make ends meet as a professional illusionist and frustrated with the turn his career has taken. But when the Institute invites Andy to return as an accompanist, he is put in charge of the 'greenest' and most clumsy wannabe young Illusionists, as well as his former partner and arch-rival Kristina Darkwood, who is also an accompanist.

School of Rock, but with magic! And that's not a bad thing. Adam Devine really fits this role and does a great job of propping up the kids for their comedy/magic/dramatic moments as well. Nothing groundbreaking here, but it's a nice way to spend a lazy afternoon after you had to cancel your camping trip due to wildfires at your campgrounds. And probably also in some other less specific circumstances as well.

Who didn't grow up in love with magic? Who didn't want to, in some form or fashion, want to be a magician in real life? That's the main draw I had with this movie, and I think Adam Devine did great in this movie. Again, with Disney Plus, it isn't anything that'll blow your mind, but it IS funny and charming...and I think one of the better family-oriented comedies on the platform.

My bonus-daughter has requested me to look out for kids live-action movies, and not just the cartoons, so expect more films like this popping up. I can't really contribute too much to these as they're missing their mark on this old man, but I guess it was wholesome entertainment for the young. She mostly kept quiet and focused, but she also didn't express that much enthusiasm either. Adam Devine & Jeffrey Tambor did a good job "hosting", but I'm not sure there was much screen magic going on.
