At first I thought this movie was going to be bad. It had sort of a slow and weird start but once they introduced all the characters, especially the new ones from the Circus I really started to love this movie. I have to say that I LOVE the lemurs and penguins. As far as voice acting goes Jessica Chastain was my favorite as the cheetah. They introduced a great bad guy (or girl) who gives Cruella DeVille a run for her money. Really good humor and the Circus scene was stunning. Just a fun time.

Uninspired. They weren't really trying, so I'm not going to with this review either. The movie isn't worth it.

Pretty much exactly what you'd expect. Except that you get what plays as a last act (and a rather brilliant one) first. The jokes-per-minute quota is high, so what does it really matter that the humour is often less than sophisticated? It's a breezy watch, and DuBois is a fun villain.

Madagascar 3 is the embodiment of Dreamworks' persistent inconsistency. There might be a scene or two here that work on their own, but this mixed bag is for the most part a garbled mess that jumps around at a pace that must be dizzying even for the kids it's trying to pander to. Vitaly, voiced by living legend Bryan Cranston, is the only moderately engaging character Madagascar has yet managed to conjure up. Meanwhile Captain DuBois, the villain, doesn't work at all. Dreamworks can do better.

This one actually felt like a good movie in my opinion. The characters are slightly more fleshed out and it's very colorful and well-animated. You could almost skip the first two films and be okay with this. Good stuff.

Madagascar the third was a lot of fun, but I think also, my least favorite of the three. Though, they're all fairly similar in quality. The European circus adventure was a little too random to get fully engaged in. Not that it didn't have its moments, like going trapeze crazy. Also didn't hurt that the Tiger reminded me of Tiger Mask.

I really loved how this commits to going just all out hold no barrels batshit crazy, without having the need to excuse for its ridiculousness. It moves at a breathtaking pace. The comic timing is impeccable making me laugh out loud many times. Thus I was highly entertained.

More entertaining than ever: The increased "fish out of water" animals vs. humans antics make for loads of hilarious action set pieces (see the insane truck then plane escape from Monte Carlo), the goofy one-off bits are taken to another level (see DuBois' rousing French song; Rock's gut-busting Afro-circus bit), and the new circus setting provides two infectious feel-good musical numbers. The plot, meanwhile, continually takes wonderfully unexpected turns (see the poignant return to the zoo).

Madagascar 3 is again, an improvement for the series. Somehow giving the characters exactly what they've wanted from the beginning turns out to be a hard lesson learned in and of itself. Which was risky but well written. The animation is to a series high standard and the music is a high point for sure.

Madagacar 3: Europe's Most Wanted is surprisingly the best instalment yet to come from what has been an overall unimpressive Dreamworks franchise. These films have got increasingly silly and anything goes in what I'm pleased to say is a frantically enjoyable and colourful kids film. The Penguins are once again the franchises strongest asset and there are several ridiculous but fun set pieces. However even though this is the best of the three films yet, I wouldn't welcome a fourth instalment.

Animal pals Alex (Ben Stiller), Marty (Chris Rock), Melman (David Schwimmer) and Gloria (Jada Pinkett Smith) are still trying to make it back to New York's Central Park Zoo. They are forced to take a detour to Europe to find the penguins and chimps who broke the bank at a Monte Carlo casino. When French animal-control officer Capitaine Chantel DuBois (Frances McDormand) picks up their scent, Alex and company are forced to hide out in a traveling circus.

This movie reminded me of a really good Warner Bros. cartoon a la Bugs Bunny or Animaniacs. In contention with the Penguins movie for the best entry in the Madagascar series, it avoids the narrative pitfalls of the preceding films while still remaining as funny and off-the-wall as both of those movies' best moments. The Edith Piaf musical number is a standout sequence.

The characters are warmly colorful, even the villainous Capitaine DuBois, who combines the wicked heart of Cruella De Vil with the athletic grace of a Cirque du Soleil gymnast and the hennaed look of Lucille Ball on a butter-and-cheese diet. The circus setting sparkles with neon joy. The journey back to Central Park is a hoot. And there are even good solid lessons to be found amongst the peanuts and Cracker Jack. (pluggedin.com)

I found most of it pretty insufferable. The utterly boring slapstick, the stereotypes, the paper-thin characters, and the absolutely horrible music... I found the whole thing rather tedious. I was about to write the whole thing off as crap, but it did redeem itself slightly in the end. There was some actual emotional resonance for the characters and a thematic tie-in to the films. It took me off guard, and it's nice that they did that, but it doesn't redeem the entire film.

Manages to reach new levels of absurdity, which is fun in a Saturday morning cartoons sort of way. The most impressive part of the film by far is Vitali and his awesome trick. The development of his character is head and shoulders above the rest of the film.

It's exactly what you expect. Pretty much on a par with the first two; worth seeing if you enjoyed those. Animation is great, the script is good, and there are plenty of involving, clever scenes (mostly chase sequences). Drags a little despite being only 90 minutes long, but no other issues really, this is a fine little film.

The film does have some nicely animated action sequences, but if you're like me, these scenes matter little if the characters and story aren't very good. Unfortunately, they're not very good--although I'm sure many children would disagree. I can't help but this is a another animated film driven by the computer--more than the story and characters. A real shock, this one, yet an entirely welcome one. Knowing the basic premise of the series, I was immediately swept up in a tide of hilarity, excitement, and color. The script, co-written by Noah Baumbach, of all people, is delightfully insane: where else will you see a lemur steal the Pope's signet ring for his lover, a bear? Superb animation and top-notch voice acting; Bryan Cranston and Martin Short are especially strong. A couple of predictable story beats aside, a near-constant delight.
