Though the film overall isn't a masterpiece, I thought Gregory Peck's performance was phenomenal. I enjoyed the film more than I thought I would as well.

In this biographical narrative, Gregory Peck assumes the role of Douglas MacArthur. However, the film bears a somewhat uninspiring resemblance to the more captivating movie, Patton. While the movie maintains enough appeal to hold one's attention, its primary focus is on scenes featuring MacArthur in dialogue with his staff or family members.

The line between hagiography and bullshit can at times be a nebulous one, but this film firmly plants both feet in the territory of the later and proceeds to stompfuck the ground with impious glee. One of the first cinematic band-aids on the boo-boo that was the Vietnam war. Better and even more ridiculous ones were soon to follow.

Fascinating portrait of one of history's most controversial characters. Great performance by Peck!
