Anne Shirley doing her best to duplicate Mary Pickford, remaking her M'Liss (1918) for the sound era. And it's a fine movie, though it was never among Pickford's best, and it's not among Shirley's best either, even if she was by far the best thing in this! The thing that troubled me the most was the scenes seemingly ending before they'd left a solid mark. Rushed through those important moments too much.
