R-rated movies can make a bazillion dollars, just go for it, this was going to be online in a few weeks anyways like every other movi cutting away from the gore you're nor creating tension doing a less is more cop out it's clearly a box office move - I get it but we want to be grossed out and shocked not oh whatever I guess M3GAN doll would only be bought by perverts if real.

Though M3GAN doesn’t have the satiric agenda of a Verhoeven film, it’s smart about squaring up to the big ideas that its premise suggests, like “screen time” as a form of surrogate parenthood and how our intimacy with “smart” technology can seed its weaponization. The film seems keenly aware of its predecessors—Robocop, Westworld, Child’s Play, A.I., and 2001: A Space Odyssey—and has adapted itself to the times as smoothly as a software update. Welcome to January Schlock 2.0, new and improved.

This needs either an unrated cut, or a version where M3gan and Cady actually bond and have each other's backs. While there's a lot of fun in the first half, it dissolves into standard and pretty mild stalk-and-kill once Cooper and Wan run out of ideas. Which is a pity; living with a M3gan who can, and wants to, fulfil every trauma-fuelled wish seems scarier than just dying from her. Hand MEG4N to a different writer and this horror icon could actually deliver fully loaded. With more songs.

Allison Williams is really growing into her jawline. She looks slightly less off putting than the robot doll. The best of this was the questions it raised about AI taking over responsibilities for us that might just be the things that define our humanity anyways. If you are going to force a compliment out of me, than it is better than Toys.

I thought it was a pretty good time! I don’t know that it’s anything to gush about, the criticism it has on our over-reliance on technology isn’t all that fresh, but it DOES indeed deliver all that it promised. It’s got camp, laughs, thrills, and a few chills. The effects for M3GAN herself are also quite seamless. This makes me miss horror comedies even more than I already did. Don’t go in expecting to take this too seriously and you’ll be alright. Worth watching for the camp and M3GAN.

When this movie is "creepy killer a.i. chat-bot murders people," it's fun. For the remaining 85% of the movie, it's a drag! There's so much set-up and none of it is very fun (or even particularly necessary), the emotional outbursts of the traumatized child are both unpleasant and needlessly heavy baggage for a film like this, and the final confrontation is disappointingly weak. This is a fun premise, but the execution (and especially the script) really lets this down.

Not without its enjoyable bits, but definitely a bit more cheesy than really scary. M3gan herself is mostly just a boss bitch who you’re supposed to cheer as she takes out annoying people. Better than the recent Child’s Play where Chucky was a robot, which it’s more or less the same movie as though.

It surely has its moments, specially in the build-up beginning, but I just think the transition from creepy cute doll to killing toy happens way too fast, leaving nearly no room for a decent atmosphere to take place before all the murders start happening. Also, not scary at all and I hope they improve that in the sequels.

The opening commercial was really funny but the rest didn't make me laugh as much as I had hoped. As far as M3GAN herself, she's a cool character. Not sure why critical consensus on RT says "delivers chuckles as effortlessly as chills" because outside of maybe a scene or two, it's so silly that you can't be scared. Not saying it's bad or shot poorly, it's just not scary. But since it's also a comedy I'm forgiving of that. And I was entertained the entire time, so that's what matters to me.

Yeah it’s fun, the scares are all far too telegraphed and generally it’s not spooky whatsoever but the laughs are decent and I had a good time. Should probably have leaned harder into the overall camp vibe because it largely feels more like “a modern horror movie with some funny bits” rather than the silliness being a full undercurrent.

(Unrated) Not really what I expected. It had more dramatic depth, and less humor than I would’ve thought. Worked better as a drama than it did horror or comedy. Felt a lot like the Child’s Play remake, so not very fresh. Although I did like the point on how technology is used to substitute parenting. McGraw gives a good performance for a child actor, especially the tantrum scenes. It’s decent, but not anything special.

Irritatingly engaged in fulfilling Woke mandates by creating a very different "reality" w/ 2 females as the outrageously ballsy tech geniuses, an Asian male as jerky CEO & all males either jerks or asskissers. The script does briefly touch on new ideas like parents using computers as babysitters & the unhealthy attachment that can follow. The last third also delivers some good mayhem & a solid climax, but the 1st hour's mediocre given the similarities to all the Deadly A.I. cliches we've seen.

M3GAN is a perfectly fine little slasher. Unfortunately, it doesn’t really portray itself as a horror movie, but the story is kind of oddly serious, thus creating this weird lack of strong tone. It seems like it just wants to poke fun at the haunted doll trope and it does it well enough, but the actual arch of the film is more interesting, but also doesn’t deviate itself from movies like it. Its ending is a lot of fun, but this is more just of a good one time watch.

Loads of fun, did not really have any scares for me, but I loved the little musical bits, they were just on the right side of weird for me. Sure, the story could have gone deeper on co-dependency and I didn't buy the emotional turns of the characters in the last act, but! Who cares?

Poorly written characters and a bromidic script makes M3GAN a tough chip to swallow; despite it's branching nodes of potential that occasionally shines throughout. M3GAN herself is the unabashed star of the film, a revoltingly well designed marionette turned uncanny valley modern horror. However, Blumhouse rears it's familiar ugly head and squashes most of the cerebral fun that could be had here, into a messy, trite slasher that ultimately throws away any of the clever allegories it generates.

A mess, unfortunately. Hints at some potential, but ultimately nothing is capitalized on and the whole experience ends up flat. Couldn't seem to decide what it wanted to be, trailers made it seem like horror, the intro made it seem like it was going to be a dark satirical comedy, but it doesn't fully commit to being either. The script was lacking, there's no setup, and no payoff. Long, lingering shots of M3gan staring at things for 80% of the film does not count as character development.

There's nothing new here if you’ve ever seen a killer doll or technology run amok movie, and the overall familiarity of the plotting hurts the impact of the terrifically sinister (and macabrely amusing) title character, especially when it devolves into a not particularly scary slasher. Decent disposable entertainment, with Williams and McGraw a fine complement to Donna/Davis, but slightly frustrating when considering what might have been. Love the Funko ads tinged with a Verhoeven influence!

Ehhh, not great overall. The antagonist is visually well made, even interesting, and well voice acted. It's the context that lacks. First there's a major disconnect between the MC during the first third and the rest of the movie. You could expect an evolution, but it was more of a switch, from uncaring to caring. Secondly, the secondary cast is rather bland in writing. I also think they could have done something with the parent-child relationship between MC and antagonist.

It's better than I thought it would be, and I actually really wanted more. The film was clearly going for the more marketable PG-13 rating, so it feels like certain scenes might have been cut for content. That makes the film feel like it's holding back at times and keeps it from truly being scary. M3GAN's arc into a terrifying villain is great, but we don't get her at her most evil. Still, the film has some good comedic touches that blend well with some pretty great unsettling AI sequences.

This at first I thought was going to be a bit like an episode of Black Mirror but in the end I'd say its more comparable to the Gremlins films. It did feel somewhat cliched in the way the apparent scares are put across. It is a horror/thriller film, fair enough - I suppose I was more curious about it in terms of a more serious drama social commentary angle, rather than the whole Chucky/Gremlins slice & dice parts but if you like that kind of film, then you'll probably enjoy this to some extent..

HER meets those horror movies where a doll comes to life, but in its set-up this is a film about the difficulties and challenges of adoption that exactly follows the template of SLUMBERLAND (itself no doubt not the first of its kind). Contains some amusing moments, but the dialogue still often seems to have been written mechanically, and the way it builds to a climactic fight scene is all too predictable: it needed just a bit more thought. Readings that invoke Hoffmann’s Olimpia are overblown.

This succeeds at least partially by being unburdened by expectations, but underwhelms despite what it does well and its premise. I got up to use the bathroom and missed the big goofy trailer dance moment. This recycles jump scares that we've been seeing for decades, in my opinion fails to explore most of its worthwhile questions and ideas about AI, parenthood, attachment theory, etc., as well as lazily telegraphing its inevitable sequel. I think this could have been more, if it wanted to be.

This is a very silly movie. There's not much plausible about the way Williams's and her colleagues behave in the face of pretty clear warning signs, and it's incredible to suggest that anyone would build this doll without a remote kill switch and parental override. But it's a pretty damn entertaining movie that successfully flags it's silliness right from the start. It gestures in the direction of some serious themes, but it really just exists to provide little doll kills

As i expected after the trailer the character of M3gan is a hit and we'll be seeing more of her no doubt. She's adorable and funny, but not quite creepy. Very good robot act by Amie Donald. Not everything works in this movie and i'm of the deep conviction they should have made it campier and crazier, instead of trying to fit in a subplot about a grieving child under the care of an unfit guardian. Props for M3gans catchy outfits. She really shines in the forest scene.

A genre-bending oscillation between horror and comedy, like our attitude towards robots and AI. The interesting aspect is that AI pushes us to become "conservative" when faced with its dark side. An "independent" woman like Jemma has to defend "motherhood" against a "perfect" mother robot. Thus, an unexpected Heideggerian defense of human poetics. Another thing is how we as audience "humanize" Megan. Her final death could only happen without her mask. Otherwise we would almost feel sad for her.
