Why so bad, Brazilian cinema? Why so sophomoric? All I could think was "shoot the writers, exile cast and crew". This was painfully embarrassing.

It plays as a tribute to Sganzerla's classic, but there is some dignity here: Ignez brings the cinema marginal back to the big screen as if she were working at that time. This is a film of distortions -- sound, image and social metaphors are elements of disturbance --, a sequel in which the imagery feels almost like an answer to films like Elite Squad: you just can't cure or solve poverty by killing people. It's amazing how this flawed film updates the original with respect and bravery.
