Come on, he didn't take the Bond gig, don't try to make him Bond

Nowhere near the show, but I'm still a sucker for even a tepid dose of ol' Luther that I'm willing to overrate this somewhat hackjob. Serkis is great, the writing let him down overall. Elba and Erivo worked well together. 6.5 for me which will upset the diehard show fans as most seem to be slotting it in around a 3.

Despite its flaws, “Luther: The Fallen Sun” is a competent and enjoyable addition to the hard-boiled crime genre, especially for fans of the television series. The strong acting ensemble, especially Elba and Serkis, and the exploration of important themes make this film worth a watch at home.

Watched the show, I can confirm that this is the definitive modern detective action thriller. Not as good as it was trying to be. It’s weird how the worst part of every Netflix movie is the writing. Get me some AI scripts because this shit is already calculated and soulless.

Probably better than the last couple of series but still a bit shit and pointless. Watchable enough for the most part, the final 30-40 mins in the Norwegian snowcave are awful - a random Bond scene set during the climax of a particularly average episode of Criminal Minds. Plot elements don’t really seem convincing (is there any point to the prison escape guff?) and it feels like they’ve tried to cram a whole series of events into a coupla hours so everything’s too rushed and convenient.

The movie has it all. A prison, a prison break, bad CGI, fires, explosions, super villanous villain... They crammed a lot of crimes into that one guy, could have been 2-3 episodes with different perps instead. I'm not sure if the movie is actually that good, or if it just washed the bad taste in my mouth from the 4th and 5th season.

I don't know why I'm giving this 60, it probably doesn't deserve it. Apart from (mostly) being visually pretty decent, it's a very poor movie. Elba and Serkis are alright, but nothing in the movie makes any sense. It feels like they had some sort of a conceptual draft, and decided they really don't need the details, and just started filming. I have 157 characters left and that's not enough to even get started with all the things that are off in this movie.

Ridiculous & moronic. Lacks realism, substance & most of the positive elements from the declining, yet still superior TV series. Elba & Serkis struggle to carry the film, but it becomes so increasingly riddled with lazy contrivances & plot holes that it just sort of implodes into a great sucking maw, absurdly comical even as it consumes minutes from your life. While not truly terrible, it's such a mediocre waste of talent & opportunity that it feels more frustrating than many far worse films.

Not watched the series as I watch Luther: The Fallen Sun (2023), but maybe I will at some point after this. Idris Elba on a bizarre and disturbing investigation while running from his own. I do like British crime, and I enjoyed my time with this.

Not the same vibe as the TV Show. Too cliche, too Netflixy, too political correct,... I mean, who just stands on top of a building after escaping prison for no reason? Just don't give me this bullshit. Regardless, it has that creative writing touch of the TV Show every now and then. Unnecessarily long too. Overall, fast paced thriller to kill time but nothing more.

The TV show was superb. The movie reeks of contractual obligation. Idris Elba is, of course, excellent, despite the utter nonsense of the story. Elba/Luther fans (like me) will be unable to resist watching whatever any critics say.

Senenin seri katil polisiyesi.

"Luther: The Fallen Sun" is a film that, while flawed, delivers a compelling narrative and commendable performances. Its commitment to depicting a grim, unrelenting reality is commendable, but its over-reliance on sensationalism and narrative complexity detracts from its overall impact. Despite this, it remains a gripping, if unsettling, exploration of the darker side of humanity.

Pretty much just a longer episode of the show, until the more action-oriented climax.

Highly enjoyable, fast paced addition to the Luther series. Very dark but also thought provoking.
