I had some very vague recollections of this film from my childhood and I was surprised to see that it's actually quite artistic and ambitious. It's one of the few Finnish fantasy films that exist and it makes good use of it's limited budget and locations . Some scenes might be too scary or plain weird for smaller children. Worth a watch!

This movie manages to do something so few movies can, it actually feels like a fairytale. There is a wonderful ambience, no doubt due to a sensible aesthetic choice; where many other pre-CGI fantasy films opted to go pseudorealistic with crappy unrealistic special effects, Lumikuningatar decided to look unreal and happily follow dream logic where things just, well, happen. Also worth notice are several great performances here, including not-annoying child actors.
