Touching story of an older man saved from the brink of depression by a woman who lives across the street. First time feature director/writer, Nickolas Fackler, has talents that belie his age (22 when filmed) and education (high school, completely self-taught). It made me ask, how can this just be for an older audience? Ellen Burstyn's performance is especially endearing.

Told from the perspective of an old man who meets the nice lady across the street, falls in love with her and she soon becomes the center of his universe. However, the true story is that he is losing his memories and all the people in his life have been forgotten. He is empty, lonely, fragile, a shell of a man, frequently frightened and so very alone. This movie is well acted. The subject is painful and sometimes unpleasant. It's a horrible thing getting old and losing your mind.

"Unlike Sarah Polley's superior kindred spirit Away from Her, Lovely, Still's portrait of late-life love is excruciatingly shallow and phony." - Nick Schager

Intimate portrait of a worn out soul given a last chance at love. Where some would question the undermining efficacy of its much too familiar plot device, I would retaliate with utmost conviction in how it helps the story move forward. Landau is very good as the disconsolate, forgetful yet caring Robert, benumb by the simplest of questions: "could we have dinner tomorrow ?" A little clumsy here and there but Flacker has given us a taste of his bound to be, given his age, interesting career.
