This movie rips! Pretty much checks off everything I want from this type of noir; gritty/shocking violence, effective thrills, visceral cinematography, a mostly unpredictable plot, actually steamy sex scenes, and a memorable climax, with some scenes that could be read in to in different ways. Katy and Kristen have great chemistry and I loved both of their performances, and Ed Harris was delightfully strange and mean in his Ed Harris ways. Erotic, weird, gay and pulpy in the absolute best ways.

Kind of just flies off the rails in the third act in an undeserving way and that’s not even mention the stupid ending. Up until that point fairly enjoyable with a great and bizarre performance from Ed Harris. Stewart’s icy, detached acting fit the feel of the film until it was her time to get in the emotional moments.. There’s a scene at the end where she’s yelling at Ed Harris and it actually seemed like a 7 year old being angry. Her personality works more in a movie like Adventureland

The longer I get from the movie the more annoyed I get at the third act but it was still a decent neo noir up until that point. Ed Harris playing a demon is an inspired choice

This is one for the history books: Ed Harris, bald as ever, but with an 80cm long mullet. Great direction in this hard and violent lesbo action movie, Rose Glass is definitely one to watch, even if it's pretty obvious we're a bit on the Refn-side here artistically but it's actually good to imitate the masters while finding your style. It's a good one for Kristen Stewart fans, as i am: she's in it. Fistpump to Cliff Martinez too, delivering the goods as always

At first I thought the bodybuilder Hulk shit was corny, and it probably still is, but it's better if you take it as a stylistic flourish the first time you see it, and as Stewart looking in awe at her lover at the end. If it's literal... it's unnecessary. Stewart embraced and channeled the chaos of LLB exceptionally well, hitting the neurotic/unhinged beats and the typical emotional outbursts. A shaved down runtime would improve it because a movie like this shouldn't have time to breathe.

Vibes and some surprising imagery do not a movie make. It also doesn't explore a few themes, so much as vaguely gesture at them. What succeeded for me was the love story of our two royally fucked up main characters.

Well-paced and atmospheric crime/love story. There's something visually striking about the romantic relationship between two (in their own ways) masculine women, almost as striking as the Ed Harris Crypt Keeper. Also, I appreciate movies going off the rails, but this one felt a bit lackluster. Almost as if they didn't know what else to do with the characters.

Stylistically, it's really cool and Rose Glass definitely is one to watch in the film world. I didn't connect to the story as much as I wanted to and there were too many "look at me be weird and cool" moments, especially in the bizarre third act (which I didn't dislike as much as others seem to have,) that kind of overshadow a really vulnerable and powerful performance by the two leads, especially Kristen Stewart's character. Dave Franco is good as a scumbag and Ed Harris is also evil.

There is something incredibly evocative about how 'embodied' each characters emotional landscape is portrayed: the rippling taut muscles, yellowed teeth and the savage mullet visited on Kristen Stewart. By the final act, there are so many loose ends that don't really matter, which seems to mirror the desperate and aimless mood of the film. Still, it was very much worth the ride to get to wherever it was we ended up.

If it was sold to you as it was to me as the 'muscle lesbian' movie, it is so much more, amazing cinematography, career-best level score from Clint Mansell, an incredible sequence of events, and Kristen Stewart deserves at least a nomination for this.

Passionate and provocative, this is the type of film that gets under your skin. Beneath the violence and revenge, it’s a queer love story that’s hopelessly and breathlessly romantic.

This film takes enormous swings, especially in the final act, and I think it manages to connect with all of them. It has an extremely dark and nasty sense of humour, and ends up feeling a bit like the answer to the question "What if David Cronenberg had directed 'Red Rock West'?"

An absolute screamer of a film. Carefree blend of noir, 80s kitsch, body/psychological horror, and romance that displays Rose Glass' rhizomatic growth from Saint Maud. Feels kind of like a gayer Refn movie on steroids and I mean that in the best way.

Rose Glass is 2 for 2. Loved how much her horror chops from Saint Maud still show through even though this one isn't a horror film (I mean, it has its moments!) I need Katy O'Brian to headline her own John Wick-esque franchise stat

Stylish and competently directed. I really dug the 80's aesthetics and soundtrack. Good cast too; especially Katy O'Brian in her bold and physical role. Sadly, the script is not as strong as the other areas and keeps the film from rising above to something more than just an entertaining neo-noir. It also felt like they were trying a bit too hard with some over the top scenes. Still, I definitely enjoyed this and will be interested to see what director Rose Glass does next.

Solid thriller with good performances all around. Didn't know Stewart was this strong of an actress. The actress that plays Daisy is so good in the creepy role. Very well done with a bold ending that, while goofy, somehow works.

A feminist, magically realist, Cronenbergianly graphic, Tarantino-pulp novella that starts out promising but doesn't quite stick the landing, fizzling out in the final act. For all the flair and pizzaz of the first two acts, it commits the ultimate sin in the flashy world of pastel-colored pop art: it ends up being rather boring.

It's weird how fully this movie falls apart in the third act. Usually it's the story that falls flat in cases like these but with this movie it's also the acting. It wasn't enough to ruin the movie for me, but it definitely changed my mind from "What an unexpectedly excellent movie" to "Weird how completely this unraveled in the end."

The imagery, atmosphere and dreamy soundtrack all grab the attention (as does Katy O’Brian’s physique, of course), but by the end I’d say it was more something I found interesting than thoroughly enjoyed. To be honest I think I’d have enjoyed it more if it just stuck to being a vaguely rednecky bodybuilding retro lesbian romance instead of all the crime and violence and murder stuff; my favorite part of the film was the first half hour.

I very much enjoyed Kristen Stewart in this movie. She's adorable and entertaining. The story was a bit heavy handed. The depiction of steroid overdose rage was very interesting. I enjoyed most of it, but it came completely off the rails in the final minutes, ending with all shock and little value. I can recommend it because there is a lot here, but it really could have been so much better.

When things grow outside the literal near the end, it casts the rest in metaphor. Which means, what, that love is an addictive drug with side effects of rage, violence, and gaslighting that is administered through peer pressure? Hm. I'm not sure that worked for me. The brutality is heavy and the messaging is conflicting, but it's a well made film led by strong performers.

I really wished I liked this. But some great bits of it just didn't win me over -- low fantasy stuff, the body horror-ish, psychological typical A24 shit as manifestations of Jack's addiction to steroids. That said, cast is pretty good -- gotta love Harris randomly eating a beetle of his personal collection of bugs -- and it's mostly a fun, violent and hot wicked love story -- lovely ending, by the way. Oh, I didn't quite get why this was set in the 1980s, but ok, I'll take that.

I think this deserves a lot more than the grade I gave, but I had a big problem with the pacing: despite the (potentially) great cinematography and intensity, it just felt way too fast and jumpy to really leave a mark. I wish I could play back this 45rpm single at 33rpm LP speed and see how it turns out.

Genuinely stumped by this movie, which is not necessarily a bad thing. As a campy revenge thriller, it's kinda genius. It's never boring to watch skeezy, variously mulleted lowlifes as they fight and fuck themselves into bigger and bigger trouble. But messes are, well, messy. O'Brian gives a sympathetic performance that's at odds with the movie's plan for her as a grimdark She-Hulk. The constant switching between stations keeps the audience guessing, for better and for worse.

Feels tailor-made to the young A24 crowd, with its coolness, violence, and emotional intensity. But it's remarkably well made, helped by the heart-felt romance at its centre. Stewart ain't too great, but O'Brian does wonders in her emotional and physical performance. A movie with many fun ingredients, and feels simultaneously more human and more misanthropic as it concludes. My favorite 'lesbians on the lam' film of 2024.

Love Lies Bleeding is a movie that either needed to do more or less. At its core is a really good relationship. Stewart and O'Brian have great chemistry together and give great performances. I also love how 80's it is stylistically. Unfortunately the movie just keeps adding on unnecessary plot elements. IMO the film either needed to be longer so it could better flesh out those elements or scale things back to better fit the runtime. Though Overall I do like it and found it very entertaining.
