Love Is a Racket

Good pacing and acting make this film more watchable than the failed love story should have allowed.

Ludicrous hokum made okay by good acting. My wife and I tried to explain the plot to each other afterward and failed miserably.

The story was only so-so, but I felt the acting was close to brilliant and deserves praise. Douglas Fairbanks Jr. never felt more at home then his role as the lovesick reporter. While always a joker, he's never taken comedy as serious as this, while also delivering the emotional parts without making it into soppy trash. Lee Tracy was excellent as his sidekick. Ann Dvorak as the friend and the girl in love with Fairbanks was fantastic. Her eyes and ways said it all. A very pleasurable experience!
