Love, Deutschmarks and Death

It's a hell of archival work, and I respect that, but what else? It's also true that I loved every scene with music performances but seriously, what else? What does this film want to tell? What's the point Cem Kaya wants to make with Love, Deutschmarks and Death? Is it more than a confirmation of the Turkish-German narrative? It looks like a fancy and fun representation of "Gastarbeiter"ness and it lacks a lot of elements politically. Just an exploitation of nostalgic elements with great music.

1955-1960 yıllarında Almanya giden Türk işçilerin yaşamlarını belgesel tarzda anlatılmış. Türk kültürünü, Almanya'da uyarlamaya çalışmışlar. Türk kaset tablosu olaydı. Türklerin metro istasyonunu pazara çevirmesi çok komikti. Derdiyokların o kalaşnikof gitarını istiyorum. Tek kötü tarafı sadece Türk kültürünü anlatması. Filmin sonunda, Bu kadar. Alamanya alamanya türk gibi işçi bulamanya.
