Disastrously poor. The series, however mediocre, had a theme: a boy with a rather authoritarian father is torn between the desire to conform (represented by his friendship with the ethical, protective robot), and the more adventurous desire for some less conventional kind of life (represented by his friendship with the foppish aesthete, Dr Smith). Here: stupidity and unpleasantness reign without end, abysmally framed as a parable about the difficulties that occur between fathers and sons. Avoid.

I took a galactic wrong turn in the video store and rented this movie. Don't make the same mistake. I'm beginning to think that Gary Oldman is the Sean Connery of our time - he doesn't know how to say "No" to a script. Matt "Joey" LeBlanc the action hero - now THAT'S funny.

The original style of the show was completely left in the dust for a more action-packed style. Matt LeBlanc somehow leads what looked like a promising cast through a jumbled and flashy blaze of not-so-humorous quips and a painfully inconsistent plot. Total crap!

Matt Le Blanc was fairly humourous in friends. Putting the exact same character in space was not. Only gets any points at all because, once again, Gary Oldman upstages everyone and saves some dignity.

A misadventure in sci-fi for all involved that would be almost comical if it weren't for the bloated budget that could have been put to better use in other ways, such as putting Matt LeBlanc through acting classes.

Saw it in the theater twice. Why go see it a second time, you ask. The scene where the ship explodes made me laugh harder than any comedy I've ever seen. I'm sure I ruined the movie for anyone taking it seriously. There is not an apology that accompanies that last sentence.

I saw this, it wasn't particularly good which was no surprise and thus I wasn't deeply insulted. It would be like inviting a bear to a party and getting annoyed when, instead of behaving itself, it trashes the food and swipes at the other guests. Would appeal to kids at best (both this movie and bringing a bear to a party).

The title conjures images of unknown wonders to be explored. What we get is a derivative ship to search, a dull planet for background, and an annoying space monkey. The plotting soon makes clear the title actually refers to the audience. It must be noted that Matt LeBlanc is astronomically awful in this. He alternates between constipated scowling and vacant quipping, all while looking perpetually confused - basically he is Matt LeBlanc.

It was really hard to fuck this up, guys. I mean, really, you take Swiss Family Robinson, you put it in space, bam, there's your movie. The script practically writes itself! Not this script. Ladies & gentlemen, Academy Award Winner Akiva Goldsman everybody! Take a bow, Keev. Wow. Gary Oldman is the only watchable part of this. You're better off watching the Friends ep with him instead, as it's better than watching Joey try to make it in the movies. Notable for making Lacey Chabert look not hot.

For all I know, Gary Oldman is probably God in disguise, wanting to try His acting chops in our world's Hollywood studio system for kicks. And he's probably the only redeeming thing about this joyless, soulless adaptation of a (campy but good) TV series. His Dr. Smith is not quite as gay, but is less grating on the senses; replacing our annoyance quota is both a euro-punk variation of Lacey Chabert and an aborted career-changer for Matt LeBlanc. But remember, Oldman's in it. So it's watchable.

So terribly disappointing. The original Lost in Space was fantastic as a TV show. It mixed perfectly the core ingredients of Star Trek and Full House. How that was transformed into an empty one-liner fest like this, well... it's just sad for me.

I remember liking this when I saw it in the theater and - what do you know? - a watch of it nearly 30-years later has me still finding it entertaining. I understand I'm in the minority here and I totally recognize it's not a great movie by any means but I really liked the way this feels episodic and adventurous and I love the ideas in it. Sure, the execution is bad, but I wish more TV show movies were like that. Also, a full cast of either great or at least famous actors is entertaining.

If not the abject turkey its reputation implies, this is still a dire sci-fi/actioner that’s closer to a lukewarm riff on STAR TREK TNG than a faithful adaptation of the TV show – Hurt looks bored, LeBlanc is barely there; only Oldman and Graham show themselves the dedicated troopers they are by attempting to spark up their scenes, though the wet matches and sodden kindling they are handled do them no favours. For all that, it’s watchable enough if you’re in the mood for something undemanding.

Really tedious. In dire need of a protagonist (probably Will, the boy) to bring perspective to the plot points. And that's just to start. Its humor is sparse, slight, and forced, LeBlanc's role was loathsome, there's glaringly little for the mother to do, and overall I have no idea what appeal to viewers of the original TV show it's supposed to have.

Lost in Space is a movie that should have been geared towards me. I used to watch the show a lot when I was younger. I guess what the movie was missing that the show had was humor and more of a serial plot. I can't hold the second issue against this movie but the schlocky serial aspect of the TV show is what made it great. The people behind this movie try to bring it to this movie but it doesn't work because this movie is too self serious. The final boss was the best part of this movie; creepy.

Probably worse than I'm giving it credit for, but watching it in bite-sized bits over the span of a month made it less harrowing than it would've otherwise been. Matt LeBlanc shouldn't be carrying a movie, Annie's not good, William Hurt basically belongs in a different film with how humorless and unlikable he is, and even Gary Oldman couldn't make his character not drag things down. LIS might have been the first film I didn't like as a kid; adult-me stands by kid-me's assessment.

This is good family sci-fi that doesn't deserve its bad ratings. It has a likable cast. There is some danger and wonder that fits with the genre. Family values are regularly brought into the narrative in a clever way. It even deals with time-travel without being messy. Certainly cheesy, but that is the intention. Decent enough to rewatch if you haven't seen it for a while.

Lost in Space is without doubt one of the worst Sci/Fi's ever made. The plot is simply Joey from Friends takes a family into space, they get lost and you never know how it ends. With an awful script, even worse visuals and some terrible performances thrown in. William Hurt, Gary Oldman & Heather Graham are all decent actors but this isn't any of their finest moments. And as much as I love Matt LeBlanc as Joey in Friends, he will forever be Joey and I just can't take him seriously in a Sci/Fi.

In the tradition of classic TV shows made into movies, the popular opinion is this film sucked. But I maintain my rating; LIS is a fun adventure film, family-friendly without being mind-numbingly dull, has a really exceptional cast and I think pays due homage to the show. They even made sure to litter it with clever cameos from the original cast (June Lockhart's is particularly endearing). And far more than I think the original series was; this movie is TRULY an ensemble piece.

Has anyone noted yet that this movie is paced like a TV show? You can just about divide it into quarters, each with a different antagonist (the Seditionists, the spiders, each other/the environment, and Spider-Smith) and a different focus conflict. The part where they all say good night to each other, in particular, was an odd homage to the episode endings of The Waltons. Weird, because this was clearly made 100% thinking it would be a theatrical movie. Also yeah, it's as bad as people say.
