A small group of Catholics led by an ailing priest believe that Satan intends to become man, just as God did in the person of Jesus. The writings of a possessed mental patient lead them to Peter Kelson, a writer who studies serial killers. They think it's his body Satan will occupy. The youngest in the group, a teacher named Maya Larkin, goes to Peter to investigate further and to convince him to believe in the possibility of Evil incarnate. Other signs come to him as he and Maya them take a journey full of strange occurrences, self-discovery, and an ultimate showdown. (imdb)

One of the best and most overlooked movie out there. More thriller than horror so maybe thats why its poorly received. Fantastic cinematography.

Perhaps this film is hated more out of principle than virtue. While it favors images over script (the third act is mostly a mess), the cinematographer's eye is often brilliant and suits the themes. There is a Lovecraftian vibe to it: as if "The Call" was not to Madness but to Faith. And to an atheist and moral relativist, as our lead is at the beginning, Faith IS madness, and madness Faith. How frightening religion can be - because it's out of your control.

The thing I remember most about this flick is that it was the first dvd with DTS that I had with my new kick-ass home theatre. There is a scene with a barking dog that goes diagnally across the screen and is a true test if you have a good system or not.

I tried but couldn't get into this movie. I found both the story and characters boring. Defiantly skip this movie.

Did these people even bother to read the Bible before writing this film? *Spoiler* To prevent John Hurt from becoming the Antichrist, Winona Rider shot him in the head and killed him, yet the Bible clearly states the Antichrist will recover from a wound to the head and the world will be amazed thus gathering the world to him. If you want to prevent John Hurt from becoming the Antichrist the last thing you're going to want to do is shoot him in the head; but this was the film's resolution.

With nothing to thrill or gross out & a couple cheep scares, this is a movie in search of a plot. Winnona plays a pseudo heavy looking scared most of the time. Deep sigh. I can think of many more interesting directions for this movie, and who couldn't, there's plenty of time to think about whatever. Here's the kicker, the ending is damn good, tacked on to the end of a better version of this movie, it would have been awesome.
