The description is WRONG! It's a docudrama! If you like science, biochemistry especially, check this movie out! It's also a chick flick, because it deals with a mother's poisoned blood.

Two of the movies' greatest actors (Nick Nolte & Susan Sarandon) give two of their greatest performances in the service of this intelligent and moving story about a husband and wife who fight to save their son from a deadly disease. I like that the movie didn't insult my intelligence --it trusts us to get the science and explore alongside Lorenzo's parents. It also doesn't sugarcoat Lorenzo's suffering or the strains it puts on his parents and those around them.

Tearjerker.

A film that brought out conflicting emotions in me. It's so well made & performed that it does seem harsh only giving it a 58. But in the same breath it also seems a very staged, overly managed film, with little or nothing in terms of originality or creativity. The fact that it's based on a true story could be a restricting factor here? But even so, despite its obvious competence, "Lorenzo's Oil" never drew me in, or captured me, & considering its subject matter that is quite an indictment.

Pay no mind to the so called summary on this page, it's an effort not only on the father's part, but so many people who came together to help two desperate parents willing to do anything to cure their boy. I don't think I've ever been so impressed by Nick Nolte, or brought to tears so quickly by a movie I watched in my high school science class. Smart, tearjerking, and almost perfectly executed, watch this movie and absorb it's beauty!

The story about the boy, the disease and a possible cure is absorbing, but unfortunately I didn't really care for any of the characters.

Miller is working overtime here!

Completely original and masterful approach to the telling of this kind of story. The first fifteen minutes has the intensity of Fury Road. Gorgeous cinematography. Excellent cast and societal storytelling. Don't sleep on this for any assumptions you might have made about it and remember that sometimes heightened emotions are what make sense for a story.
