It gives off that noir feel really well, even in the brightly lit scenes that set up the story. The villains aren't given a lot to do, but the actors do well with what they're given, particularly Stewart. The story has some plausibility issues, but that doesn't keep it from being entertaining. What really kicks it up a notch is Raft in the lead role who plays his conflicted character to the hilt.

A nifty crime flick with George Raft bringing a surprising amount of thrills to the Loan Shark (1952) racket. Plays it the cold and broken way, like we all know Raft to be good at, with some sparks igniting when around the dames. However, when around the guys it often gets ruthless and we get a solid noir out of it.

Predictable plot, but the action scenes are quite good.

Jeez, yet another "infiltrating the organization" noir. This one has a slightly unusual twist to it, as it doesn't involve any kind of law enforcement agency at all. It's a weird setup and rather implausible. It's got a few nice touches: some instances of interesting cinematography, crisp dialogue, and the tough guy performance by Raft. But overall it's very by-the-numbers and doesn't bring anything new or very exciting to the table. Decent for some quick but forgettable entertainment, though.
