A Bette Davis movie (her presence is the only reason I searched this one out) where--save a handful of lines-- she's dubbed into Italian... what's the fucking point? Word is she was cast very late in the game and, pro that she was, learned the entire script on the plane to Italy, not realizing she was going to be dubbed. In any case, Italian comedies are most assuredly not my thing.

I've probably seen a few better gambling movies, but none more nerve-wracking. I was practically shouting at the screen, and I couldn't believe I was laughing in the comic reliefs. Sonego's script is ruthlessly extreme and harsh, but so good that you never bother doubting it. I won't tell you who wins in the card game, but I'll spoiler one thing: Sordi and Mangano beat the crap out of Davis and Cotten in the acting department.
