Fine performances by a good cast in an enjoyable movie about the travails of low-budget filmmaking. Catherine Keener in particular, who is usually great, did extremely well: sometimes she had to act likes she's acting poorly, other times she had to act like she's acting well, and still other times had to act likes she's acting terrifically. Doesn't seem like that would be an easy task, but she was superb.

Right from scene 1 I could tell this was going to be brilliant. The portrayal of the endless frustrations and compromises of a low-budget film shoot is caricaturish, but also gloriously true to some real life experiences I have had. Film world outsiders can learn just how hard it is to make a film by watching this, and us insiders can laugh about the process. The performances are also superb across the board, particularly Steve Buscemi and Dermot Mulroney. DiCillo is a very underrated director.

Very funny and clever, with great performances. A gem of a movie which, last I checked, didn't make much money at all. Which is a shame, there's a movie like this with actual ideas and concepts that makes nothing and then there's Epic Movie.

A very sharp, creative, hectic and darkly comic depiction of the filmmaking process. Every few scenes it veers in a completely unexpected direction, and thanks to some crafty editing the whole film just blows right by. You really feel the tension on set, but also become familiar with some very passionate characters on a more personal level, and the ending is a nice bit of fleeting relief.

Lines up with my experiences on low-budget sets pretty, pretty, well. The casting is perfect all around and this is easily one of the best movies about making movies

A clever film about multiple idiosyncratic creatives dueling their internal states and outward posturing with each other, and within the creative process - a loaded topic handled with just enough sincerity. The film's commenting on itself through film method adds to the theme and doesn't distract. I do think the film cuts deeper if you've ever been here (because you've probably already committed seppoku).

Apart from the unmistakable filmschool stench and the dull 90ies visuals, an amusing little film about the misadventures of a low-budget filmcrew. Buscemi, Mulroney and
(especially) Keener all do fine work but even if they hadn't it would have all been worth it to see Dinklages rant against dream sequences featuring dwarves.

Beautifully observed behind the scenes look at indie film-making is brilliantly sharp and witty (almost an indie spin on THE PLAYER) and remains consistently offbeat and unpredictable. Helped by a marvellous cast of future stars, with Keener exceptional, but almost matched by Buscemi, Mulroney and especially Le Gros, in a wickedly funny send-up of the pretensions of a Hollywood heart throb (though publically denied, his resemblance to Brad Pitt is too obvious!)

I really like how this movie gives you an idea about how is it really when you make movies. An artistic expression which depends of several people doing their things perfectly at the same time, when an external sound ruins the whole scene must be so frustrating, and finally you end up compromising the art or just losing your mind. Also is very nice to see Steve Buscemi leading.

this was hilarious the way it depicted how EVERYTHING went wrong on the film set. it was cathartic in that sense. the only problem was that it felt like it was grasping for a deeper meaning through cryptic, vague dialogue. having that added dimension made the film feel like it was missing something, because it didn't properly address it. on the whole though, in terms of showing the dynamics on a film set, absolutely brilliant.

A great movie about making movies. Really shows you the frustration involved in putting together a film, which is like a child in the eyes of the crew, particularly in the eyes of the director. The characters are at times over the top but also feel real, especially if you've ever worked with actors or directors.

A darkly funny look at the highs and (mostly) lows of low-budget filmmaking. Particularly strong on the inner fears and ego-bruises of creative people. And Keener is luminous.

Decent, nothing special. It's not very funny but it is pretty real. I really liked Mulroney and Buscemi in this. Also, Keener needs to shave her pits.

One of the funniest films about filmmaking ever made. It may go on a little long, but the sheer relatability of the onset situations (boom in the shot!) would make me remiss to not give it an 80. Also, Catherine Keener's naked breasts. Let's make that an 81.

DiCillo effectively captures the frustrations of an indie filmmaker dealing with morons and prima donnas, and coaxes excellent performances from each and every member of the eclectic cast. The repetitive nature of each of the three acts makes it somewhat less enjoyable than it should be however, and the general air of amusement never translates to genuine laughs.

Enjoyable for probably anyone who has an interest or is active in independent filmmaking, this begins with the smaller problems, such as bad lensing, forgotten lines, and light blow-outs before showing the bigger problems like the egos of actors or creative differences. It's an amusing film that thankfully hardly ever pries away from focusing on the filmmaking -- it's no masterpiece, but it's a light piece of entertainment with some good jokes and on-point characters and acting.

I loved the concept of a B&W film about filmmaking that showed the film-within-the-film in color, but that's dumped early on. LeGros was a fantastic foil to Buscemi but we didn't get that for long either. The hip-hop boom guy is a complete misfire, as are the romantic plots. It should be the job of a comedy of frustrations to escalate throughout, and that doesn't happen. This is a film not just small but simple. There are chuckles to be had but I was definitely left wondering, "Oh, Is that all?"

Too many eye-rolling music cues and when the attention is off Buscemi/Keener, I couldn't care less. I barely laughed but the idea to this is interesting enough. Great opening.
