Little Buddha

Parts that display buddha's life is excelent. Part with kids is very good. Overall, a must see movie!

Visually stunning with a compelling and empathetic cast. The story is a quest for answers, and a visual feast. Great casting and marvelous cinematography that leaves a lasting impression. An under-appreciated gem.

Suppose an affluent American couple with no particular spiritual beliefs are approached by some Tibetan monks and told that they believe that the couple's very young child is the reincarnation of their teacher and they want to take the child to live with them in Tibet. How do you suppose they would react? Nothing in this film is an even slightly convincing answer to that question. I don't believe anything I see on screen here.

Interesting plot that failed to deliver. Every actor in this, including the extremely miscast Keanu, was awful. It felt like a slapped together made for low rated cable TV movie. The horrible conversion to DVD that looked like it was originally from a VHS and the lack of subtitles didn't help either.

Strangely enough I liked the Seattle scenes best; the rest, while pleasant, is non-threatening, unquestioned myth.

not my type!

Nice idea and reasonably executed, but it ends up as being just a bit too ambitious in scope and doesn't really achieve anything much in its 2 and a bit hours. Having said that, it's a least partly aimed at children, and, as I first glimpsed snatches of it in passing that stayed in my head for about 15 years until I finally got round to watching it, it must be effective to an extent.

If you can sit through this movie, it's alright. Movie bored me to tears.

Two themes -- a childlike retelling of the story of how Siddharta becomes the Buddha and the drama of an American family's immersion in an unfamiliar culture -- exist uneasily together, despite their symmetry. There is a naivety in both; but the photography -- predominantly a cool blue in its American settings, glowing golden in its eastern scenes -- and composition provide a constant visual fascination.

Now I've seen everything: Keanu Reeves as Buddha. The really weird -- and massively egotistical -- part is that the character looks more and more like normal Keanu the closer he gets to godhead

Keanu Reeves makes a very convincing Siddhartha. "Whoa, enlightenment! Totally awesome!"
