Poorly structured at first, but once it starts moving mountains Little Boy (2015) becomes a very touching little picture. Goes directly at your emotions and exploits that has hard as it can, and sometimes that's alright.

A diminutive boy (Jakob Salvati) with a vivid imagination tries to use powers bestowed on him by a magician to bring his father back from WWII. To do so, he must draw upon his faith and overcome his racism towards a local Japanese immigrant (Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa). For most of its running time, an earnest if mawkish attempt to evoke the Americana fantasies of the 40s and 50s (Kevin James' creepy presence aside). The ending falls into absurdity, though, and if anything negates the lessons learned.

Sweet natured fable (with a surprisingly dark undertow) takes a little time to find its feet; overly familiar elements in the screenplay, and a near unforgivable emotional cheat in the third act, offset by the generally strong performances from Watson, Wilkinson and Tagawa, and a terrific one from young Salvati. Enriched and made compelling by not sugar coating in its depiction of fraught race relations, and the general stress and tensions of war-time, this one is definitely worth sticking with.

Child acting is always a stretch, and it has its moments of weakness here. Often sentimental, but without veering too far into LifeTime movie territory, the movie tackles the mysterious topic of faith, and does so rather well.

Entertainment: 5/4 -- one of the best movies I've seen on Netflix. Some beautiful, memorable shots. Endearing, emotionally fulfilling. Superb acting by the little boy. Very cute. Spirit: 3/3 -- faith in oneself, faith in Love, loyalty. Sustainability 1/3 -- learn from all cultures.

Ok, touching and sad in places but it feels like it's been done before a few too many times. Still worth a look though.

I'm not a fan of tear jerking, corny movies, but this one caught my attention from the first minute. My opinion here : http://opinion-as-a-moviefreak.blogspot.be/2015/09/little-boy-2015.html

Little Boy, then, can certainly serve as a solid (and delightfully entertaining!) launching pad for discussions about what it means to believe, and how we navigate the specifics of why we believe what we believe about miracles and God's sustaining hand in the midst of danger and tragedy. It also powerfully addresses the way we (should) treat those we think are our enemies. (pluggedin.com)
